There is no way you can inherit the tendency to release two eggs from your husband's family, so it's irrelevant. If your father's siblings are fraternal twins, then that increases your odds of having twins yourself. So instead of the 1 in 90 chance that anyone with no twins in the family has, it would be increased to about 1 in 22. (That still means you have about a 95% chance of *not* having twins.)

The precise likelihood also depends on other factors. Race is relevant; blacks have the highest rate of (natural) twins, and Asians the lowest. Hispanic and white are in the middle. The older you are *and* the more children you have (independently), the more likely you are to have twins, as well.

Identical twins, however, are entirely random; everyone--no matter their genetic background--has about a 1 in 250 chance of having identical twins.

Hubbys side doesn't matter. Twins are passed through the mother's side. It's all about the eggs.....if you release more than one in a cycle or if yours will split into identical twins. Really has nothing to do with hubby's genes.

I don't know about percentages. I know my dad had a set of twin brothers so twins was a possibility for us. We had three babies but no twins.

chances are you might have twins you probably have a higer chance than the common person given that many twins in your family. Although, I did hear that they do skip a generation which might mean that your kids have a higher chance then you. But don't forget. Identical twins are all about the sperm. Then fraternal twins are all about you and realsing two eggs. I don't think that you can get a clear %. But who knows maybe a doc will see your question and be able to inform you otherwise.

If you do get pregnant then you will probably have twins because most likely it runs in your family and your spouses family. This is because during your menstrual cycle they let out 2 eggs insstead of one. If they get fertilized then your twins are on their way! You and your spouse should talk it over, and you and your mother or step mother and see the possiblilty of having twins rather than a single child; I don't know your families history so I can't rightfully say.
You can have identical twins, but it is less likely because the egg has to split. Feternal (not identical) twins are more likely because it's in your family, but it skips a generation so you won't be so likely to have twins. It weighs out to around 50/50!

If its true that they skip a generation then id say no if your dad had twins, but if you hubbys grandparents had twins then his side says it very likely you could . In my situation it fell on my generation my side and his so we were destined to have them weather we liked it or not .However you will know if it is twins if you trust your own body and feelings and gut instinkts.

My Girlfriend is a twin, here's what she says.

Twins usually skip a generation so if your parents are twins and you are not then the chances are high that you may have them.

Twins however are far more common these days than they used to be due to fertillity treatments etc anyway.

Identical twins are determined by God and the egg. Otherwise you release two eggs in one cycle. If you have a lot of fraternal twins in the family on your side, then it is very likely. I suppose identical twins could be hereditary, but not sure.

It is possible. My dad is a triplet, my mum had triplets and then twins, so there must be a genetic link somewhere. Apparently the link is higher in non-identical twins
