We've complained so many times to our boss, and although he's spoken to her about how to act and work, she still annoys us. She's got some mental issues, yet she's so irresponsible and always hangs out with the guys in the shop. She's always on her work and cell phone and talks as she works. It's annoying to me, mostly, because I sit across from her, and let's just say that I know more about her that I need to!! There have been so many times where I would like to just scream and tell her to shut up and to stop acting like she is still in high school. This is her first office job and it shows. There is no way she would have lasted this long in a "real" company. I'm trying to find another job, but the only thing this place has going for them is that the health insurance is free.

RuneAmok has some good answers. Try wearing headphones, if that is not possible then the next best alternative is to gently remind her when she is talking to herself. If she has mental issues, the boss may not be able to do anything more than talk to her about how she is supposed to act at work. If she is the only reason you are searching for another job, understand that there will always be someone you can't stand at any job you take. I suggest you keep bringing your complaints to the boss with the understanding that there is not much he can do. Just to remind him that it is still a problem. Simply stating "Your talking to yourself again, Please stop" is probably going to work best. Hopefully she will respond by closing her mouth. You will find that after a while (maybe a few weeks) that the instances of her talking to herself will be reduced or at least reduced in volume. It is a lot like training a dog.
Good Luck.

Instead of b....... and complaining, QUIT!!!! Go find yourself a new job if you are so bothered!!! I know that the "free" health insurance is not the only thing keeping you there. You like getting yourself wrapped up in other peoples business/drama. It gives your obvious boring life some pizazz. If you have so much (obvious) free time, I can find you something to do and really TALK about!!! Instead of your petty jealousy of your co-worker.

I would start answering her every time she talks to herself with the same response. Oh, Loulou are you talking to yourself again? Keep repeating this over and over again throughout the day. She will eventually get tired of you saying this and may stop talking to herself. I have worked with a variety of odd people and each one was a challenge to get along with. Right now I have someone who sits near me humming and singing (badly) constantly. I put up with it because the alternative is sitting next to a guy who would talk endlessly about things that I have absolutely no interest in. I have invested in an IPod to keep my sanity. Good Luck.

I would suggest taking her out to lunch or something - get her away from her work. Calmy explain to her that her muttering is bothering not only you, but your co-workers. If the problem does not stop, you might consider moving jobs if this interferes with yours.

You telling her to stop isn't going to get her too. Go to the boss again, and if he doesn't do anything, write to the president of the company. They'll probably fire her and the boss.

A lot of problems are fixing by spending time together. Talk to her, try to understand her. Maybe she will get on your soft side and you'll be able to deal with her eccentricities.

Mumble things about her under your breath.
Wear headphones.
Go ahead and scream at her.
Every time she does it, say "Sally, you're talking to yourself again!" It's like training a pet. It takes lots and lots of repetition.

Ok, none of those are mature responses. I know. Hopefully someone better will answer this for you!

Instead of whining to the management to avoid the confrontation, kindly take her aside and let her know she is disturbing you! She sounds clueless, and likely never thought about it.
