How come some people who were like sick and on their death beds actually saw Heaven then? How is that possible if Heaven doesn't exist?

Because the human brain basically short circuits at times (electrical impulses go haywire). They can "see" what they think they ought to see, or they can see a light. Doesn't mean it's Heaven; just that their brain is malfunctioning or shutting down. Interestingly, this phenomena can only be observed in people who have "near death" experiences. These, of course are not "actual death" experiences, so there is no guarantee that what these people think they see is what anyone who actually dies sees...

Although for some unfathomable reason, Blackacre is getting thumbs down as a reaction. He's telling the truth. It's a clinical fact that bright light and other such visions are created within the brain itself as it shuts down.

I'm not saying that heaven is real or not, and yes...I do have an opinion, but that's not the question posed. The question *posed* was how is it *possible* if Heaven *doesn't* exist, and by the same token, it could be *possible* if Heaven *does* exist.

How it's possible is electrical impulses and the firing of synapses in the brain, and the brain is what controls the rest of the body from voluntary to involuntary responses.

But never forget that there are more mysteries to life and death than what the human race is solved, and we are pre-disposed to quest after knowledge and information. So, thumbs-up or thumbs-down, let's all keep learning and growing in our search for the unknown.

If by "real", you mean an actual geographical location, I would argue that the Near-Death Experiences are actually a piece of counter-evidence for the reality of Heaven. No one else in the room sees the tunnel into the light, only the ill person sees it.

It's a reaction as the result of a dying brain. A Hallucination if you will... The reason they are all so similar is based on 2 factors, physiology and culture. Culture gives us a preconceived notion of what to expect at death so our subconscious manifests what we expect to comfort us, it's a defense mechanism. And physiology, we are all built basically the same so our systems work in the same way... hence similarity.

If optical illusions aren't real then how come everyone sees them? It's the same kind of thing with 'Near Death Experiences' - i.e. just a kind of delusion which many people share in times of extreme stress because of the commonality of human nature.

Scientists have studied what sorts of chemicals the body releases into the bloodstream during such events; and have further learned that, by injecting those chemcials intravenously, you can actually induce a "near death experience" in a healthy person....

They are sick. Delusional.

I have a friend that died. He was young and mentally stable. For the most part. When they brought him back he said he say nothing.

If you are so afraid to die and have been looking forward to heaven your entire life you are going to see whatever you want. It is like a false memory. You can imagine it is real, but it is not.

A "hallucination" was enough to change the mind of A.J. Ayers, one of the greatest skeptics of the 20th century.
