I have just had a question, in Greek, removed because it was deemed incomprehensible - not, however, to Greek speakers. Why not have one section which invites the use of languages other than English?

Καταλαβαίνω ακριβώς τι σημαίνετε, εγώ επίσης AM ελληνικά και θα εκτιμούσατε ένα τμήμα των διαφορετικών γλωσσών.

Bravo! I have been sited about four times for writing in Spanish or some other language. The first time was really my fault because I asked who know the author of a quote in Spanish. I could have asked in English with only the quote in Spanish. But, I asked the entire question in Spanish. The question was cited and then erased.
Next time I wrote "who said" in English and the rest of it in Japanese. I think that one got by. But, then I got cited for answering a question in Spanish in Spanish.
I have almost stopped using answers except for the language section which rarely has any questions any more that I feel I can answer. I cannot see why I have not been violated off already. Someone went back to really old question and I got a violation for that just recently -- I couldn't believe it. It was for being too friendly with my answerers. I feel that many people ask questions not to know some facts but to hear human voices in response to their question. Maybe that is just me.

You know, if there were a section that invited languages other than English I would think that this would be it. Maybe there ought to be a serperate section for questions about Modern English. They could call "English." I like languages in general and that includes English. But, I would really like to be able to ask sensible questions in other languages. I don't feel that I know enough in any other language to go to the site for that language.

I agree it's unfair that your question in Greek was removed, because there isn't a Greek Answers site where you could have put it. With French, Spanish, German, Japanese and several other langauges you can go to the sites of the relevant countries and use those languages freely.

Why not ask Yahoo to set up a Greek site? Tha pao k'ego! (I'll go there too)

Yahoo.com is for English speakers. Go down to the bottom of the page. See all those other little flags? Each one of them links to a Yahoo Answers in a different language.

The use of other languages should definitely be encouraged in this section, considering that there's stuff on Yahoo Answers that is incomprehensible even though it IS in English! :))

Yahoo Answers is international. Therefore, if you really want to write in a language that, it is fair to say, the majority of the users of a UK-based site would not be expected to know, then go to the country where that language would be understood and use the Yahoo Answers there.

I really get mad at Yahoo Answers for this. I would like to ask some questions in Spanish, but they won't let me. I don't see any reason why they can't make an exception for a "languages" section. It's insane.

That's happened to me before as well. I accidentally posted a question in French, on the English-speakers' Yahoo Answers. Anyway, I think you've got a valid point.

Interesting! I wrote a question this morning in Norwegian (and a bit of English as an explanation) but, as far as I know, it wasn't taken out. I shall have to bear your problem in mind if that's the Yahoo policy. Pity, because Answers International doesn't seem to run to Scandnavia!

I assume they mean questions in English about languages. Personally I like to see non English questions b/c I 'm always working on other languages and like any chance to translate.

I'm surprized that it was removed because I have seen questions writen in Chinese. I would try again, you should be able to ask questions in a foreign language. If not you should contact the people in charge of the site because that is a shame!
