Probably Creative Writing, and it may be a good idea to double major or possibly minor in English Education so you have a back up plan.
Just a thought.
Best wishes! =)

English or Literature. Now that does not mean English Literature, but that wouldn't hurt either, assuming that English is the language you want to be writing in and especially assuming people with a fondness for English Literature would be in your expected reading audience.
Actually, you might want to major in anything that you are good at, subjects where your talents are strong. There are two reasons for this. One is that any reasonably thoughtful and articulate person, whatever the experience or education, can be a good writer--and has. Lots of writers have degrees in things other than English and the like. They use their experience, their passions, their relatives (especially comics, they seem very fond of writing about relatives), all as character or setting or whatever. Second, most writers don't start off as writers (remember the expression, "Don't quit your day job."). I read of Alex Haley, how he almost starved while writing his first big break. Several journalists had (and many still have) "a book on the side." A surprising number of really good books by really good authors didn't get started until at, near, or past retirement age.
Major in anything you like--but take all of the English or Literature classes you can fit in along the way. Good luck.

You don't need to go to college at all to become an author. It won't hurt, but it's not necessary. All you have to do is write. Many authors never went to college. Many never even finished high school. If you can write, you can be an author.

Skip college and start writing....there is no right or wrong way to write, especially if you are talking fiction. Go to college and someone will teach you the "correct" way to write. If you're looking at reporting and/or news work, then journalism is good, but if you want to become a great writer, experience life, don't sit in a classroom and let someone else tell you how to write.......

How about Literature or Philosophy,
.... not that you need to be taught or told how to write, but to learn the "human condition" from the classical myths through the ages, and cultures to current times.
Developing a working knowledge of cultural and personal perspectives will enhance your ability to create and communicate.

Your options comprise: a million. No degree, purely examine/write as much as humanly a threat. 2. AA in English (at a community college) 3. BA in English (concentrating in Writing, Literature or Rhetoric). 5. BA in any subject & MFA (grasp of high-quality Arts) in inventive Writing for working adults who have already got a small portfolio of written artwork. lots of outdoors retreats. 6. to renowned the 'business company' of writing (enhancing books, journals and magazines, fundraising, gives you, etc) some colleges grant "Publishing" below the English degree application. 7. BS in Journalism. it relatively is a various club of writers who get dogged with the aid of different writers each and every of the time as a results of fact they are form of writing is seen as careless, irresponsible and purely no longer contributive to contemporary-day literature. Their fulfillment as 'extreme writers' is extra a attractiveness contest than something, yet in all fairness, they are very experienced in putting their innovations to paper very immediately, with self belief, and common to envision. as quickly as you have written something that folk will appreciate examining, no person will care the place you went to varsity or notwithstanding if or no longer you even went to varsity. yet, college is relaxing, and it gives you life stories which will impact your writing sort. desire this helps! :)
