...that the book of an all-knowing, infinitely wise being would be....oh, I don't know.....a little more profound, maybe? A little more awe-inspiring? That maybe it would have some insights about the human condition that hadn't been thought up by us "mere mortals" independently in societies all over the world and throughout history? That its lessons would be instantly comprehensible to the average 10-year-old, instead of leaving even learned scholars scratching their heads and bickering over what it meant for more than 1500 years? Wouldn't you think such a being -- who knows what every person on Earth would think of this book and how they would interpret it from now until the end of time --would be able to do that?

It's not a book of an all knowing infinitely wise being, it's a book of stories of men, edited by men, re-written by men, about men that revered their god and believed they were inspired by their god.

The dead sea scrolls that were actually written by Jesus of Nazareth won't be allowed to be considered as part of the bible because they say church is not necessary. The bible has been translated and re-translated by the men in power wanting to force their views on the past and control the future. That's why there's a 'King James' version.

If it were written by an omnipresent being, seeing as historically people have spoken in 'tongues', languages they did not know, the omnipresent being that inspired them would have inspired them to write it in every language, even modern day English, in words even the most and least educated people could understand.

There is where you misconception lies. The bible is easy to understand and complicated at the same time. The message of the bible is simple enough that anyone can pick up on it, even a 10 yr. old and yet at the same time it would take more than a lifetime and the comprehension of many academic disciplines to fully understand all of the truths contained with in. This mere book functions in many planes and dimensions at once. God being who He is has more confidence in us that He did create a book that is complicate and simple at the same time. That which you accuse the bible of being is exactly what it is. It is so awe inspiring and insightful and complex that it does leave learned scholars scratching their head because God actually wanted us to put some effort into studying the bible as opposed to creating a book for intellectually lazy people and yet at the same time there are lessons in it that ARE instantly comprehensible to the point you can pick up on its simple message, which is God created man, man turned his back on God, but so there wouldn't be an eternal speration between God and man, God provided a way for us through the sacrifice of His Son that anyone who by faith believes will be saved....pretty simple message if you ask me.

So I guess that which I expect has been granted....

I hadn't ever thought of that, but I would think it could be a little more...engaging. In general I don't find it particularly inspiring or even well written, but that's just my take.

But then, could you imagine if God had spoken to Shakespeare?

I'm not a blind faith man myself. Doesn't it make more sense to have man do some sole searching and discover for himself the meaning and have some faith. Rather than haveing everything done for him and not sure of the persons character.

Not really-- too many people seem to find the one HE gave us too much to absorb.

If the Bible you have available is too simple for you why not pick up a copy of the KJV and read the BEST translation available. You will have to learn 30 new (old, antiquated) meanings of words that are out of style - but other than that it is quite Awe inspiring.
That's what you are looking for!

Praying beofe rading helps too.

Ah, but if it were easy to understand, then organized religion couldn't take advantage of its ambiguity. Then they'd lose their power to control the masses and make a ton of money in the process.

I'd expect that. Real genius makes concepts easy for non-geniuses to understand.
