Of course I will go ask my doctor but I just wanted people's opinion on medications they have taken.. Doctors are sometimes biased by the free trip to Jamaca the pharmacucal salesman provides.

i am no doctor and i recommend no medication, stick to vitamins, minerals supplement.

trust me, medication for anxiety has strong stuff to control your anxiety, that can cause serious side effects such as memory loss, slurred speech, more anxiety and nervousness. and the more you take it the stronger and nastier the side effects become.

i would stick to supplements and natural theraphies (there are many). don't waste your money on expensive medicine that will cripple you. the fact is anxiety can be coped with, it takes time, but your mind can learn to deal with it.

check out 'attacking anxiety, coaching video' dvd with Lucinda Bassett (who suffers from anxiety and is a motivational speaker). She is great and has so much advice on anxiety.

i am speaking from personal experience by the way, good luck

I would avoid the pharmaceuticals as they rarely work well and can really throw the body off....

Go to a supplements store and pick up the herb Scullcap and Valerian. I'm not going to explain this here, but in general Skullcap is better with men, and Valerian with women. Though you should have both on hand and take two capsules of either as needed.

Very briefly Scullcap is Yin, and Valerian Yang. Men tend to have more Yang and should add Yin to be more balanced. Scullcap is a great herb for anxiety as well. However if you are feeling cool (literally on the cold side - Yin) you would use Valerian at that point. Then I would make sure you have a quite period each day to calm nervous system stimulus etc.

Effexor! I have taken this for several years and it doesn't cause any weight gain. It actually causes weight loss because it decreases your appetite. If you have panic attacks you will see almost a total elimination of these attacks. In fact I had one panic attack since i started taking effexor and that was right after i was put on the medication. I would definitely recommend this medication.

yeah definitely ask your doctor. i used paxil, but i think it caused me to gain weight (i didn't notice it at the time, but looking back on it i think i did gain some). i also still use xanax for immediate panic attacks and that is the best drug ever invented!

You should go to your doctor to get him/her to recommend something, since you'd have to go to get a prescription anyway, BUT zoloft, paxil, and lexapro have all been used for anxiety disorders. Once you talk to your doctor, you'll find out more.

i use fluoxetine (prozac) but its supposed to help with my depression too

your doctor would know best! ask about side effects - that medication made me deathly tired for about 4 or 5 weeks, but now it works wonderfullywith zero side effects

good luck!

I've been using Zoloft for a couple of years, and I'm quite slim and still can get it up.
