Sure. But dont buy your bike at Target or Wal-Mart or something like that.. look into Raleigh and Giant, even Mongoose. Get a good mountain style bike with a nice squishy seat (you can buy a different one and put it on yourself if you have to) with Shimano gears and brakes. Some bikes come with shimano gears. As for the cart? I would get the most logical product, the kiddy seats. Theres a little bike made of a sturdy frame and tent-like material thats seats two kids. Its enclosed and I think you can zipper the whole thing closed, that might be ideal for putting a small lock on, and packing with groceries. If you are going to sometimes put a heavy load in there.. I would get the mountain bike with the 21 speed gears.

If the town is small enough, just get a wagon and walk. The problem with bicycles is that without sufficient gearing, you will be walking and pushing the bike as well as pulling anything attached to it if a strong wind comes up and it is against you. Walking doesn't have as great a problem. There are maintenance issues to think about. How expensive will it be to keep up the tires and oil for the chain? Spokes will need to be maintained as well. They need to be kept tight but not broken. They also need to be reasonable even around the tire.
It's not a bad idea. You just need to think about the days when you cannot use your bike.

This is a fantastic idea, and good for you and the environment. Kudos to those who suggested gettng a good quality mountain bike, since it will be very stable when towing the cart. Burley made a very good kiddie trailer made for towing behind a bike. I even look my four year old onto dirt roads in the Burley, until it got a flat tire. Best of luck. This is very admirable.

What would really kill two birds with one stone is a three wheeled bike that has a cart built into it...They are much more comfortable, and ride the road well...They even come in speeds, although I think 3 is as high as one gets...Motorists even are more wary of them...Take a look!!!

Sounds great! I think everyone would appreciate the difference you are trying to make in the environment. Your husband should be appreciating the fact that you will be gettin' some exercise which in turn leads to more energy which in turn leads to more nooky. He should be happy. But if he just wants to laugh at you........that's his loss! Type in "bycycle carts" in your search engine and it will lead you to shopzilla and e-bay with great prices on bike carts. I saw one in our local bike shop with a cart attached, painted pink! Loved it!!!

Hey I think that's a great idea! Plus it cuts down on fuel cost!! I think your husband is the one that should be laughed at when he has no more money at the end of the week because he has used it all on gas!
