Since these 2 breeds have absolutely nothing in common, you should check both of them out carefully and choose the one that suits your life style, energy level and so on.

A maltese is a dog with a long, silky coat which needs to be brushed regularly to keep the dog looking beautiful (not at all hard, but you have to put in the time). A puli can be brushed out or kept natural (let the hair cord).

Be sure you check out the health problems inherent in each breed.

I have had both over my life and think the Puli has a better temperament. Maltese's can be quite finicky! Our Puli was just totally cool, even with little kids and a bit more sturdy of a dog. Both are going to be a pain to manage the hair on, but the Maltese breed has this crap that seeps from their eyes making it so difficult to keep the white hair clean. All in all, I like out Puli much better....may she rest in peace.

Maltise is a very intelligent breed. They are also smaller if size is an issue. The Maltise should only weigh under 7lbs. The Puli is more of a medium size dog. Both are affectionate breeds. I just love the "toy" size breeds. But it depends on the owner.

I have never been around a Puli-but from what I have read they are alot like a maltese. They both have great fur-I would think they would both take time to groom though. Though with the Maltese their eyes are very sensitive. They both are good guard dogs and family oriented. I would think a Puli would be hard to obtain though--since most people have never heard of them. The seem about the same personality wise and by physical traits though.

My Little man is a Maltese and he is SO VERY SMART.He knows how to hi - 5 and night night and bye bye and shake and I know this one is different he plays hide and go seek. Of course he doesn't hide yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened soon. Unfortunately the hair is a pain if you want it to be long? We keep him just long enough to manage. I know nothing about Puli but can't say enough about my Maltese. Also, about the stains under the eyes. It is a pain but try giving treats and food with NO RED
Good Luck

I'd say a maltese because I have no idea how they manage a Puli's hair.

They're both awful. Who wants to be dealing with all that fur, you have hair all over the place!! Better to have a little Boston Terrier, Mini Pin. or some other smooth haired dog, no tangles.

maltese - they seem very loving. pulik hair is too difficult to manage - i've heard you have to individually pull all of the cords apart every single day or else they'll get matted and disgusting.

You are asking the wrong person. My Maltese is my King, and I am his slave. He is the best dog I ever had and I had many darlings.
