Wow that's a good question. I would say it's because we like the entertain the ideas that we are not actually capable of. If we all were able to murder and be ok with it then we would never want to watch movies on it. Humans are naturally fascinated with death. It's because its unknown. Not many have died and come back to life. If they have they can't really say much about it. The human races constant craving to know more of the unknown...

I don't. But, as for why, well, first, this question should be in the psychology section. Second: possible reasons why: pleasure from the biological reaction felt when scaed, vicarious enjoyment of seeing people murered, but not by your own hand, a desire to see outrageous scenarios in the hope of good truimphing over evil; the mythological aspect; an anti societal mindset that enjoys chaos and the disruption of tranquility; siding with evil; vengeful mindset; escapism for some reason.

Everyone else has covered all the options that I would have said if you had asked 'Why do most people enjoy horror and violence in films but not in real life?' however your question actually asked why people don't enjoy the FILMS in real life- of course, they do enjoy the films in real life because we all inhabit real life.

I know that's almost certainly not what you meant but it's what you asked so surely I have given the most accurate answer.

People are impelled by the idea of another world that is more; entertaining, dramatic and frightening, than their own lives. If you think about it this way. Would you pay to watch a film that was written about an average joe's life or, the life of a hard-hearted murderer who seeks forgiveness but it all goes horribly wrong?

The same as why do people go on a rollercoaster - it's the fear factor but you know you will be safe. The same as the films are not real life - it's just pretend

The fear and the adrenaline gets them excited, but in real life, no one would want something like your life ending due to ghosts to happen.

Because in real life it could hurt . but in movies it is in the screen and anytime you dont want it you can turn the Tv Off and forget about it .. and it wont affect your life so far :) .. But in real life ... you may die or get really hurted .

because they no the movie isnt real and it gives a feeling of terror which is enjoyable to some. I myself enjoy a funny movie or action.
