First of all, why would you think you have hypothyroidism? This disease is the result of when the body's immune cells attack and destroy the thyroid gland. Side affects are: fatigue, constipation, depression, thinning or brittle hair, intolerance of the cold, memory loss decreased libido, muscle aches and pain---Hyperthyroidism does the opposite, its when the thyroid is over active. This means the side affects are weight loss, nervousness, agitation, decreased concentration, and irregular periods. The best way to find out why you are gaining weight along with night sweats is to first see your primary Dr. I'm sure he will do a blood test to make sure everything is OK. If it comes back that it is your thyroid, he will send you to a Endocrinologist. Lots of luck to you!

I have hypothyroidism and it's very important to be on the right medication and the correct dosage. Go to your physician or to an Endocrinologist and ask to have the blood test to check your TSH level. If it's high they will probably put you on Synthroid but they will need to check every few months to make sure it's working correctly. I had the very same problem and am amazed with the difference of how I feel since I'm on Synthroid.

Night sweats has nothing to do with hypothyroid. If you are having thyroid problems you need an endocrynologist who will take a blood test and get you onto meds. There are a few meds out there and it takes months to get regulated so have patience.
