I told my coworker about a guy that complimented her 2 years ago (wasnt a secret), but I asked her not to tell anyone or it may become like that game...by the time it gets back to him it will be all twisted. She promised. A week later someone told me about her compliment, i only told her.

Elana: 2 years have gone by and suddenly 5 days after I told her.... its going around, you think that was conicidence?
Also, what made it a secret was that I asked her not to go telling it for the stated reason, and she promised not to.

Some people have a blabber gene, just try to avoid telling those people anything unless you want the world to know. I was going to tell you about the complement, but I heard you already know!

I really don't like generalizations such as you've made, but you have every right to make them. So, I'll speak only for myself and not women as a whole. As a woman, I've kept many secrets over time, and some I still keep years after the fact. What secrets I have revealed have been few and far between, though always with good reason.
I also am speaking of more in-depth information than telling someone that a co-worker complimented her two years ago, & it wasn't a secret to begin with.
However in a case such as that, with her promise to you, you might want to discuss this with her. Ask her why she didn't keep her word to you, which is what I believe to the the root of your actual question. It seems to be not so much a question as to why females can't keep secrets, as it seems to be that this woman hurt you by not keeping her word.....and *that* is a very important issue, gender aside.

Do you consider that sufficient proof to know that she was
the leak?
If, by your own admission, the fact that the guy complimented
her two years ago wasn't a secret, the fact that someone told
her about the compliment could have come through anyone -
not just you.
Maybe you're not telling us all of the details, but I would
generally give her the benefit of the doubt. I would let her
know that you had heard that this was getting around and
that you were not happy with it... But I wouldn't outright
accuse her of anything.
If she is the cause, her guilt will be enough punishment.
Moreover, what are YOU doing blabbing it to her?

Keeping secrets depends on each persons ability. Not just the females have loose lips. I know plenty of men with big mouths. I think females in general have the most secrets, and the most important secrets and the longest kept secrets. Sometimes our lives depend on our keeping secrets. Why was the complement a big secret... Girls naturally share those secrets, in their catty little games. It's not a big deal. But don't judge females to harshly, cuz you can't live without us.

Not all women can't keep a sercet. However, for the ones who can't, maybe their own lives are so commonplace and unexciting that they get a thrill out of telling something that shouldn't be told. It's like doing something that forbidden, one's curious nature sometimes won't be satified until they do it. On the flip, though, there are some men who can't keep a sercet either.

Not all women blab secrets. I've been sworn to secrecy many times, and never once did I betray their confidence.
Even to this day, I have never told any of the secrets I know of others.

Irregardless of which women you gave the compliment to... they love to out shine their peers... so, whenever possible, they'll brag.
It's female nature!
Heck, how many pairs of shoes do they really need? I'm surprised they don't dating a few boyfriends just to have one for all occasions. LOL

it all depends.....if it's like a huge secret that we shouldn't tell than we won't but if its something serious and we think that someone needs to know we'll do the right thing by letting someone know whats going on. If we don't think it's that big of a deal to keep than yeah we'll blert it all out........
