Love Birds are so much fun. I really enjoy raising them. They cost about $150.00 in our area. SO if you get this pair it is a great gift. BUT what you have got to do is find out why the one is plucking the feathers. There are many reasons. One he might have mites. Go to the pet shop and find something to get rid of the mites. THEN the other thing is that the bird might be bored and nervous. Get him some good toys . Another thing. Is the two birds you are getting the same sex? It costs lots of money to have a Vet, do the sex test. Try to fiind someone who can tell, which is which. It can be done, by someone who really knows the birds well. Also make sure the feed you are going to feed the birds are what they need. It could be too, that the bird is lacking in some mineral or vitamin. When you find a Love Bird that Plucks its feathers, it could be from the wrong type of food. If it is two of the same sex, that could make the bird frustrated too. When you go to pick up the birds, take notice to see if they have lived in a filthy or clean cage. Birds who have endured filth, will most likely have mites. I used to clean all my cages every other day. No pine chips, only clean newspaper. I had 15 breeding cages to clean. It is worth it to keep the birds healthy. Could be from dirty cages. My birds loved to take bird baths. Good luck

If you are getting them for free, then go for it! Plucking can be caused for many reasons. Do you know for sure that you are getting a male and a female? When birds mature, they become sexually ready and if they can't breed, they tend to pluck their feathers. So, first find out if this is a true pair. Also, are you getting a nest box? If not, go to a store that specialized in birds and get a nest box. Stress is usually the reason most birds pluck but in a short time, it can become a habit that's hard to break. You need to find out why it's plucking in the first place. There is some research that indicates that feeding oranges or too much spinach will cause a bird to pluck. Something about the acid in these two foods can cause a bird to itch. Also, it might be mites. This will really cause them to pluck.

I have no idea how much a pair costs. I have 2 females, one cost me $120 at one petstore and the other cost me $60 at another pet store. They usually are in the $100's, but I'm sure a breeding pair would go for more.
Birds usually pluck when they're under stress, so give them plenty attention and free playtime and I'm sure it'll stop.

lovebird pair costs upward of $100 plus the cage and supplies. plucking can b from many causes, but the most common is stress and boredom. provide him wit a variety of toys and switch them every few days. mirrors r good but birds will then have a difficult time bonding with their owner. also mist the bird with warm water or provide a shallow bath dish every day to encourage healthy preening.

The plucking means the bird is stressed or sick, the stress can be cause from being in a cage with another bird that is abusive to it (seriously) among many other reasons if your getting the lovebirds in a pair they are not going to be friendly to you since they have already bonded to each other. good luck with this venture
