My children are six years apart and I found it to be very hard. I had to completely start over. I went from having a child who could do most everything by herself to having to completely take care of infant. With my first child I slept when she slept. With my second one I had a six year old running around. She also needed a lot of extra attention. I think she felt a little left out when my second one came along.
On a good note, the six year old can help a lot!! Now my kids are a little bit older. My youngest is 4. It's great. The oldest one helps a lot and we are back to being able to do things again.

It takes work. But there are advantage to the age differences. Since your 6 year old is probably entering school you will have the full day with your newborn. And the 6 year old can help you too.

Absolutly....but some advice.....try to find things that the 6 year old can do that will honestly help you and will allow them to feel like they can still have fun with u....it could be picking out their own clothes....settin the table for dinner....or you two can make up a story.....in which the 6 yrold can draw the pictures for...and u both can read it to to baby...Its hard but u can do it Good luck and all the best

My kids are 5-1/2 years apart and actually it worked out quite well. The older one was in kindergarten when her sister was born so she had her own activities and was not watching me take care of her sister all day. Also she was very helpful with the baby.

no my oldest son is seven years older than my youngest son and I really like it because when my oldest son is at school ! can take care of the baby. ..when my oldest is 12 years old he can babysit a 5 years old brother.....I HAD MORE TIME TO SPEND WITH ONE CHILD AT A TIME! MY OLDEST SON HELP QUIET A BIT! BY THE TIME MY OLDEST SON CAN DRIVE HE CAN DRIVE HIS LITTLE BROTHER AROUND AND LESS COMPETITION! I FIND IT EASIER TO HAVE THE GAP...

It seems like it would be easier since the six year old could do more by him/herself.
