You could have placed him in a separate room from the very beginning. It will be harder for him/her to adjust to his/her own room as she/he gets older. Do it now.

My kids slept in their own room starting at 3 months of age and did great. But I think moving them before age two would be good age because after they turn two, they will most likely want to keep sleeping in their parents' room. I would make the move now. My friend's daughter (4) sleeps in the bed with her and it's been hell on their marriage. Her daughter just refuses to sleep in her own room.

Child should have been in its own room as soon as it started sleeping through the night. Sharing a room is convenient for mom and dad and when the night feedings stop, child should be moved into his/her own room.

The child should have been in its own crib/room/bed at 6 weeks old. The only thing you really would have needed would be a baby moniter. Its hard to separate yourself from them like that, but really they are ok.

First of all, your question is much to broad for any of us here on Yahoo Answers, and I seriously doubt that any are qualified to answer. You should research Dr. Sears intensive studies for children co-sleeping with parents. Dr. Jay Gordon has some great insight as well. Recently, doctor Ferber has taken backwater, and reversed his 20 year old opinion on children sleeping with parents.
Your baby has been inside of you for 9 months, and feels lost and scared when away from you on its own, I would keep the baby close until you feel it is time.

With our first born, I had him in my room, until I felt he would be safe. I was alone at the time, as my hubby was stationed elsewhere. I think I had him with me until he seemed to outgrow the bassinet.. 1 month, 2 months? Then I slept with the bedroom doors open, and half awake . Second child was a bit easier..

They should have been put in their own room 15-16 months ago. Now you are going to have to teach your child to sleep in his/her own room. You are going to have many sleepless nights but it is not the child's fault. Once you put him/her in his/her own room do not bring him/her back into your bed because he/she is crying. Be patient and consistant.
Good luck!
