My son wants to travel home from California to Maryland for Christmas. When is a good time to purchase tickets?

As a army wife I can tell you that they do give "military discounts" but it's not much, takes maybe a few dollars off, he'd have to purchase the ticket also, and I'd buy a ticket as soon as you can, the closer to Christmas the higher the prices may go.

As for the person who mentioned the SSSS on the ticket if you buy a ticket soon there shouldn't be one, if you wait till last minute there may, as far as showing military ID to get out of the additional screening, it's only if the military person is in uniform and on orders, going home for Christmas is not being on orders. I also am a TSA Officer.

Im not sure, but if any person in the active duty military is chosen as a selectee (additional security screening) (SSSS, on your boarding card) they can deselect because of the active military position. So if you see those SSSS on your boarding card show your id, to get rid of that, it will save you about 5-10 minutes depending on line lines, possibly more.

Truthfully I thought they all did. Buy Christmas plane tickest as soon as possible!
