years ago Before the great detergent era......
..when you were but a small twinkle
soap was manufactured in a great slab
carbolic or green or yellow flavours ( sorry smells )
this slab was cut up into pieces ( bars )
and sold at the corner shop., as soap bars .
Today soap is still called bars of soap
but it is much more refined and shaped

A bar is solid. The other types may be flaky, watery or cream
which come in squirt by squeezing or pressurised: of course, you
also have powder, however I think you should keep that for the
washing machine.
