Today was the fourth time I have donated plasma, and each time around an hour afterward, I develop this sharp shooting and dull ache from my eardrum to my lower jaw. Why is this? What does this mean? Should I be concerned? Has anybody else experienced this?

I ran a plasmophoresis center for four years and no one ever had that complaint. Pain in the jaw is sometimes associated with coronary insufficiency. If you are near forty and on hormones or smoke get checked out.

Side Effect Of Donating Plasma

Donating plasma is a safe procedure, though be aware that there are risks involved (as with donating blood, as you've done before). I haven't heard of any incidences of seizures, and if there were, they would be in rare cases and due to a different reason than the plasma donation. Otherwise, there are no side effects that you should be worried about. It you don't like the sight of needles, you may get dizzy, but as long as you have plenty of food and are well-hydrated, then you should be fine, especially if you've donated blood before. The needle size is about the same as when they drew your blood, I assume. If you're still worried, just ask the staff when you get there (if you decide to do so), and I'm sure they'll reassure you! Hope this helped!

I can't think of any physiological reason for the symptoms you are describing as a result of giving the plasma.

I could be totally off-base on this, but is it possible you are clenching your teeth out of nervousness during the donation? That could cause a TMJ type pain in your jaw, which is really what yours sounds like.

It might be a muscular reaction to be still for so long and having the needle in your arm and squeezing the ball. I assume it is on the same side as the donation site.

You can call your doc, or call the center, but I would not worry about it.

I donated a lot when I was in college, but never experienced that side effect. I would definitely ask the staff when you go in next time.

I donated plasma for $20 bucks but I am almost passed out. It weakens your immune system you get sick easily... plasma is what heals you. Your problem getting an ear infection check it out you could be getting lock jaw.

Please don't do that on a regular basis... it's not good for you do it only once a month or less.

I just get really light headed when I donate blood. But I am also a male who weighs 200 lbs and am 23.I am more than sure your side effect are just your bodily organs catching up on what they were missing. But you should still consult your doctor.Because I am not one and this is just my conjecture.I think it is your body just hurting trying to restore lost blood. But still consult your doctor.

you should be concerned, there are many side effects to donating plasma. i had a severe reaction. they infiltrated my little vein then i went into shock, not severe shock though.

it could be your body reacting to the loss of plasma, i dont know but i wouldnt donate anymore.
