Or what if there is no median, do you have to stop for buses if on a very wide street (at least 3 lanes each side) if gong in the opposite direction?

The kids may need to cross to that side of the street.

In Ohio, if the road is more than 2 lanes wide, (at least a turn lane) you do not have to stop for a bus on the other side. It is illegal for children to cross over more than one lane. Every state varies though so call your local BMV.

yes unless there's an esplanade or a grass center in the road, also stop to avoid running any one over.
