I know I may anger some people with this question. But, I'm sick of everywhere I go that someone wants a tip. I just posted a question about tipping movers. But I thinking in general tipping has gone out of control among common people. It used to be only for waiters/waitresses because they make 1/2 of minimum wage and pizza delivery drivers cuz they use gas. Now, it I go to pick up my pizza, they have a tip jar or if I pay with a credit card, there is a tip line. Geez, is not paying for the service enough anymore. I know that those jobs are minimum wage, but we all have to pay our dues. When I was young, I worked in retail, convenience stores, etc and never got tipped. I was never a waitress. Quite frankly, I think it is degrading. I have to kiss butt just for someone to leave me a buck or two. First of all, it is a waitresses or any service workers job to be nice. If they could predict that someone will not leave a tip, does that give them the authority to be rude???

I wish tipping could be outlawed and employers just pay employees at least the state minimum hourly wage.

Most brilliant and beautiful and timely question I've seen in a long while!! I know I may be older than you and remember the "good ol' days" when you pulled up to your local and favorite drive-in hamburger joint, ordered your fare and then had them delivered promptly by a nice, smiling, cleanly dressed young woman who gave you your change and went back inside to carry out the next order. You can imagine my outrage when, not long ago, I pulled into a Sonic hamburger joint, ordered my meal, paid the girl who brought it to my car, and got NO change back as I was supposed to. So, I called back to them via their radio thing, and the girl said she kept my change because she thought it was her tip!! I had never said ANYTHING about a tip, nor had she, prior to her keeping my money under her greedy assumptions. Like you said, aren't we paying for that service via the high prices they charge for their bullshit?!! And what did that assumption get her and her franchise employer? Absolutely nothing except an irate customer who will NEVER go back to a Sonic again until they post on billboards saying they will NEVER expect any tips for their employees, and will not raise their prices to compensate for said loss. Oh well. The price of greed is an empty hand. God Bless you.

When the cost of living can't be handled with minimum wage, and people obviously WILL tip them, what do you expect them to do? I mean hell, a full tank of gas is usually equal to the work of 2-3 full days of work after taxes. If I had to work with 5 bucks an hour and I could make tips I would too.

Lol...ppl do take the tips too far...but as far as a waitress job being degrading, when they are makin enough money to pay rent, car notes, car insurance, phone bills, and still have enough extra money to go shopping, u think the word "degrading" really describes that...uuummmmm NO! lolololol

Last night I was in a place that had a bathroom attendant. She gave me a towel and put soap on my hands. Then I found out that she had to pay the club that she works at for the privelege of making money in their restroom. How crazy is that??!! I didn't want to go back to the bathroom for the rest of the evening, since it made me feel so uncomfortable.

I'd say tip your waiter/waitress, pizza delivery guy, hairstylist, and any spa services. These people really need the extra compensation. Everyone else can just **** off.

I think you right and wrong. In one way with tipping people for their service you make them fell better and encourage a good service. But also they should not always expect to be tipped. But also i think you only get a good service when you nice to them. A smile can always make the difference.

When I waitressed, minimum wage in Texas for waiters/ waitresses was $2.13 per hour. THAT is why I wanted tips, and I busted my a$$ to get them. If it bothers you that much, then don't tip. Problem solved.

ok so if they want a tip........they should just go to their boss and ask for a raise....?!??! or go school to get an education to get a good paying job...
people just want money without working for it. dont get me wrong i do tip..... only if i see a hard-worker go out of their way to be of service to me...

You should want to tip someone for serving you, if not say home and cook all your own food, if it's convenient for you it's an inconvenience for the person serving you so they should something out of it.

no, but you don't want to piss off your server either,,,,, i know what they do in the kitchen, i was one of those '' degrading" workers while i was going through dental school, and don't worry, you don't have to be nice to these "degrading workers" because by the sound of your attitude they don't want to ''kiss your butt" for the buck or two. they get their tip by what they put in your food.GOOD LUCK
