I straighten my hair everyday and the dresser said my hair was getting more and more damaged. I condition it a ton using a rediculous amount and wash my hair only every other day but condition every day.
I have thick hair that's wavy and some parts of my hair are soft, but others are all crunchy and disgusting. What should I do that's not rediculously expensive?

Maybe I was blessed with nice hair, but I straighten it everyday, wash it everyday, and am a dyed blonde and my hair is SUPER soft, but I also take good care of it.

Here's what I do/would suggest:
1) Biosilk products (You can get them at Target. They are a little pricy, but definately worth it.). I use their shampoo, conditioner, and silk thearpy.
2) Leave-in conditioner for after the shower.
3) A hair mask/deep conditioning treatment about once a week.
4) Flat-iron spray (to reduce the damage of heat on the hair).
5) Cut the dead ends off. If your hair is too damaged there is no way to bring it back, you should cut this part off.

This process will take about 2 weeks to a month (depending on the state of your hair) to have the full effect, but trust me, you will LOVE what it does to your hair.

Oh, and one more thing, do not use Pantene in your hair. All they do is add wax to the product to make your hair seem healthy. After about a month or so the wax will start to flake off like dandruff.

Okay- this might sound gross, but many hair dressers recommend that you wash your hair ever other day at the MOST. Between washes, you can use a dry shampoo powder at the roots (Bumble and Bumble makes a good one!) to curb oiliness. I love Farouk Biosilk Silktherapy- a pea-sized drop massaged into the ends of your hair seals the cuticle and creates shine. Smell your hair- does it smell burned? If so, you should cut your flat ironing down to 2 times per week at the most. This funny smell is a signal that the protein in you hair is actually fried. I have cut my flat ironing down to one very two weeks, and I style with a huge 6 inch barrel round brush the rest of the time. My hair texture has improved drastically, and my hairdresser loves me for it!

Keep it trimmed regularly & use a heat protective spray that you can apply to sections of hair that you are straightening I have thick wavy hair also, I use Tresemme' instant Heat Tamer(Wal-Mart) or Ion Heat protection(sally beauty supply). There are lots of products like that out there Pantene makes some good ones too, I also use Biolage Shampoo & Conditioner for thick course hair, because I color my hair also. Good Luck! Ps. Don't overspray if you get the Ion stuff because then it will make your hair look greasy.

I used a ceramic straightener everyday and my hair became extremely damaged. After going to 3 different salons for advice they all told me the same thing - that I would have to stop using it everyday and on the days I did use it to put a heat/styling protectant on it first. Salons & drug stores carry them.
