If all of you say that Christianity is good and help people and stuff like that, then HOW do you explain the ignorant mothers who thinks that Harry Potter promotes Satanism? That is just plain DUMB.
Of course I'm not saying that all Christians are like that.

Me personally, I don't like Harry Potter because I don't want my children watching such nonsense. I don't want them to believe in witches and sorcerers and goblins and crap like that. My children watch Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Odd Parents. She talks about them like they are real to her, she will say Cindy and Jimmy did this. Timmy is silly. Things like that. And to me that's bad enough. What they watch and see they just assume is real in their little minds its real and i dont want my children thinking about witches and goblins at 4 and 8 years old

There are, unfortunately, ignorant people in every religion, even atheism! It's not so much about religion as it is about the level of education. When you get a Christian that is educated in classical literature, you get a very different response to Harry Potter than the "witchcraft evil" response. Have a glance at the following website to see something like this:

http://www.digital-disciple.com/harry_potter_granger.htm

Interestingly, JK Rowling is a member of the church of Scotland.

Many Christian organizations do a world of good, such as helping people rebuild after hurricane Katrina, running shelters for the homeless, etc. They are usually run by educated people who understand the need of others around them, and believe that what they are doing is a good use of money to try and make the world a better place.

That mom in Georgia who is making the big huge deal of HP in the courts has, by her own admission, not read the books because they were "too long". Does this sound like an educated person? An adult who won't read a kids book because it's "too long"?!?!?

I saw a girl on here a while back asking questions about getting into the "good " witchcraft that she saw on the show Charmed. Just as she was influenced by that show other children may be influenced to delve into witchcraft after seeing and reading the Harry Potter stuff. Maybe these "ignorant mothers" don't want their children involved in occult practices.

I am not a christian, but I do want you to think about what you are doing. Do you agree with what is going on in Israel? Well what you are doing is the same thing that the muslim fighting is all about. You are judging and condemning an entire group of people. This is not a constructive manner to go about anything. I think that if you were to separate yourself from the things that other people do then you might find yourself happier and more peaceful. Try not to concern yourself with the mistakes of others. Really. And no that is not what I am doing to you. I am simply trying to make a point and help you with some self-examination pointers that you might not have thought about.

I have not actually read the Harry Potter books, however, I have a close family member who is all but obsessed with them. So I've heard quite a bit about them. I don't have a personal judgment about them, but there is enough in there about 'wizardry' - i.e. witchcraft - that I can see why people would have their doubts. After all, the Bible does expressly forbid witchcraft and occult practices in general. So while I'm not going to go out and burn Harry Potter books, I don't feel any great personal need to read them either.

Some people think Harry Potter is bad because it talks about witchcraft but that's why it's labeled fiction. By the way JK Rowling is a Christian

How does a minor incident like that trump all the good that Christianity has done: hospitals, medical research, disaster relief, fighting genocide, fighting for political prisoners, aid to the impoverished around the world, assisting ex-convicts, etc. ?

I'm not saying ignorance like that is a good thing. I've actually spent hours writing responses to such ignorance. But seriously, this is a speck in your neighbor's eye.

BTW, Diamond Doll, that is totally ignorant. The Lion Witch and Wardrobe IS PURPOSEFULLY Christian allegory.

You may be thinking of The Lord of the Rings.

LOL. they hate harry potter cause they never had a childhood. apparently they dont have an imagination. it must make them feel good to take a child's childhood away. shame on you guys, you should never have had a kid in the first place if u dont remember what its like to be one. just cause Pokemon and Harry Potter are around doesnt mean that all the kids watching them are goign to become satanic. and sorry it doesnt say in the Bible not to have an imagination... that might be because its God-Given.

And for all of you who do this i hope u dont watch disney cartoons cause every disney movie has magic in it. so what do you let your kids do? no wonder society is screwed up.

and furthermore C.S.LEWIS USED MAGIC IN HIS BOOKS. so u cant let your kids watch or read his movies/books either. the MAGICIANS nephew, or how bout the white witch? aslan even used magic.

In the Christian faith, magic and witchcraft are tools of the Devil, so they believe, letting you children see things like Harry Potter, may lead them into thinking witchcraft is good, and away from God.

Not my point of view, but one I have heard over and over from many of my friends.

Whats funnier, many of them will let their kids watch The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, because it "supposdley" contains Christians messages, wich the author (or was it the Son of the author) I cant remember, said if it did, it was merely a coincidence, and not intended. Go figure.

Harry Potter promotes witchcraft, and the Bible condemns any kind of spiritism. And spiritism is one way that Satan misleads people. There you go.

Some people go to extremes in the faith. Harry Potter is no different than Superman. Now if it becomes something you worship, that is sin.
