Hey worried mommy!!! Please ignore all the nonsense answers that you're receiving. I'm sure you are taking very good care of your baby. I'm sure because I have a 19 month old baby boy who just now hit 20 pounds. All other babies are way bigger than he is. I've stressed and worried and talked to his doctor about my worries and his health. The doctor always laughs at me. She says I'm a worry wart. My baby is perfectly healthy! And most big babies end up little when they are adults and most little babies end up bigger. Not all the time, but most of the time. My son is very active and eats very well. I've finally stopped worrying about my Lil Roadrunner "runt". LOL I tell myself all the time that he'll end up shocking the crap out of everyone and have a major growth spurt. From what you say about your baby though....everything is very normal. You're just used to seeing very overweight babies like we all are. I really hope I was of some help. If it helps....my baby is still wearing a lot of 6/9 months at 19 months. I don't have one out-fit that is for his size and age range. Don't worry momma. God bless you!!

At 12 months your baby should have a good set of teeth on him. That means he can eat finger foods. Toast is good, cut into strips to make them easy for him to handle. Scrambled eggs to go with the toast is even better. Just let them cool enough that he can pick up the pieces in his hands. French fries are ALWAYS a hit with kids. And watching kids eat spaghetti is a real comedy act! But they love it, whether it be canned or homemade. I loved this age when my girls were small, because it meant that I didn't have to buy any more prepared foods. They can basically eat what you do, just cut up small. You have to give your child larger portions of food. He should be taking three 8 ounce glasses of milk (minimum) a day. That would translate into 24 ounces of toddler formula. You should always have snack foods available for him in reach of him. A cereal like Fruit Loops left out in a bowl (dry - no milk) on the coffee table that he can reach is a good idea. Who cares about his sugar intake, when he so desperately needs to gain weight?! He also needs to be taking in just as much of other liquids as well as his toddler formula. Try him on fruit juices between his formula. When is the last time this baby saw his doctor? Maybe there is a medical reason for his not gaining weight? Failure to thrive is a serious issue, and must be treated as soon as possible, or your baby could die.

Both of my kids were 19 pounds at 12 months...not much of a difference. As long as he's eating and isn't listless or anything, he should be fine. If you are worried take him to the doctor. It sounds like you are feeding him all the right things. Just wait, he'll put on the pounds when he starts eating sandwiches, mac and cheese, or nuggets. You should be happy he's so healthy!!

Cheer up, no worries, I don't think.

I would talk to your doctor and ask for your child to have blood work to rule out any kind of thyroid diease. Also, is anyone else in your family been treated for underweight problems. IS the child hyperactive. Is everything else growing and developing fine?
First I would allow your child to have as much milk as he wanted. I would also do whole milk and not the toddler formula. As he is old enough for whole milk. I would then also give two to three cans of pedi-sure a day. Maybe like am snack and pm snack and at bedtime. I would make sure he is eating a protein, fruit, veggies, and a bread at his meals.
I notice in your question you dont mention protein. You can get protein in means of meat, eggs, and beans.
I would not set a time frame for him to eat. I would let him eat when he wanted and how much he wanted.

as long as he has his regular check ups with the peditrician, do not worry. The Dr. will tell you if he feels he is not gaining weight properly. My son is 4 1/2, is 44" tall and only weighs 34 lbs. He eats EVERYTHING and is constantly eating. But he is very active and also very healthy. I have a great metabolism and so does his father. He is WAY below the kids of his age, but he is smart, active healthy and happy, so I no longer worry.

Have you been taking the baby in for well baby checkups? Ask the doctor...could be a parasite, but you won't know for sure unless the doctor runs some tests...also, don't try to medicate the baby, deworming medicines under the age of 2 should be closely supervised by a doctor...my advice...go to the doctor...could be nothing is wrong and he is just petite...but you need some medical advice

Since your baby is 1 year now, take him/her off the formula and start giving him/her vitamin D milk. They are not supposed to have formula once they turn 1.
The question is, is he/she eating good? If so, you don't have to worry about trying to get him/her to gain weight. As long as they are eating enough, be happy that he/she doesn't gain weight fast.

If this such a concern, take your baby to the Pediatrician and see if there is any reason to be concerned. Some people eat like pigs and are always skinny while others eat carrots and gain weight. You Pediatrician can best advise you.

If the Pediatrician doesn't have a problem with it then it must be ok, but have you thought about using Pedia-Sure as well as the toddler formula? and make sure he has snacks within reach at all times.
