My best friend has decided to go on a diet. And it worries me a little- She wants to consume under 800 calories a day and do Tae-bo twice a day and walk her dog twice a day. Do you think that this is healthy? Or would she lose too much weight quickly?

not healthy at all....seek advice from a dietitian or a good fitness trainer. If you join a gym or do a trial membership they usually pair you up with a trainer to get you on track, I know golds gym used to. But under 800 calories and that much exertion....she will do more damage than good...I'm talking organ problems, female problems, and even malnutrition...and that is not sexy.

tell her to find an physical activity she enjoys (like swimming or dancing)....and usually it will curb appetite and take off weight faster than starvation. Forget counting calories she will just obsess. Besides the slower you go the better you can maintain it.

also if she is having self image issues a good counselor helps

been there.......

Hi Mirabelle!

If she has enough body fat to lose, she will be fine. You can recommend that she drink plenty of water though. My guess is that she will relax on this intensity once she does it for a while. As far as how much weigh will she lose, she would be lucky if she lost 2 pounds a week, which is fine.

Don't worry.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

I think she is endanger of hurting herself by sending her system into shock. If she is going to do all that activity then she need not drop her calories so drastically. Slow and steady wins the race.
