They are more open minded than those who stick to a particular religion and look down upon the followers of other religions. Look at the Muslims. How, ever since the faith of Islam has been preached by the Prophet the non-believers are asked to either accept the faith of Muhammad or get prepared for death. The duty attached to each Muslim in Quran to convert the non-believer has caused so much of disharmony in various parts of the world that an atheist commands much more respect than a so called devout Christian or Muslim. Tolerance of your neighbors is more important than worshiping God or Jehovah or Allah. An atheist is hundred times better than such persons, at least he is human than these people with script in one hand and sword in another.

What's religion, surely it's just an imaginary belief system, just like the Bible is really just a fake story, perhaps a bit like the Loch Ness monster tales.

When we pass on information to another (example: story, joke, description of something etc) by the time these details are passed on by word of mouth, interpreted by others, and then written down, the final details are typically quite different than the original information.

Since the Bible is just a man-made story passed down over many years in various forms, the chance of it being accurate in any shape or form is remote.

There are people who swear blind that the Loch Ness monster exists regardless of all the evidence to the contrary, but a fence post bobbing up and down in the Loch does the trick. Similarly there are people who swear blind that God exists and the Bible is fact, yet there isn’t one blind bit of evidence to support such theories.

Biblical tales are really no different than Loch Ness monster tales, just the era is different.

Many Christians are not open minded toward religion just as many atheists are not open minded toward religion. I would say that the Atheist's are more open minded than the Christians. One difference is that Atheist's seldom try to impose their way of thinking upon others--live and let live is their motto.

Everyone is different so I am sure that there are athiests that respect religious beliefs. They might not practice them. Actually a large portion of the scientific community is athiest. They usually have a good understand and respect for all the things around them.

I'm extremely open minded, as are most atheists. That's how we became atheists. We were open-minded, and studied all sides of the equation. The thing is, religion is clearly false, if you look at the facts.

I didn't make it false. It just is. Theists simply haven't done their research.

Athiests can be open to religion as much as religion is open to athiesm.

Both are beliefs.

Agnostics are inconclusive as evidence doesn't seem to suggest there is or isn't God (and I dont mean just the Christian God).

Most people aren't born atheists. They declare themselves such after exploring their own personal thoughts about religion and spirituality. When they realize that their own personal beliefs do not mesh with whatever is available for public consumption, there are only so many labels available to them. So they become atheists or agnostics.

Many of us are open minded. The problem is that religion is SOO childishly moronic that it literally sucks the brain out of people.
So we tend to steer clear of it and anyone who tries to pretend that it's anything but mythology.

Provide me testable, emperical evidence, and I will have an open mind. Shove a book in my face and tell me to read it and pray and it'll teach me everything I need to know, and I'll laugh in your face.

Open-minded doesn't mean believe everything I read. It just means that I'm willing to consider the evidence.
