Do not leave him yet! Talk to him and tell him how you really feel, it is not a syndrom! He is probably stressed and has had a hard childhood, but you should still be there for him. Show him he can open up to you by often telling him how much he means to you. If you don't mean the same to him he will have to say something. Also if you walked away from him before because he said he loved you, he may be lacking in self confidence and think you will leave him again! You have been with him a long time though and you need to feel comfortable, if you don't then you have to speak to him.

Get out your copy of the New Testament and read Acts, Chapter 1 and 2. That will get you started. Read it a few times so you understand what really happened and then just start your relationship with Him through prayer. He will lead you from there. Pay attention and be prepared. He'll provide everything else you need.

You could join a church, but it is not that satisfying.
You could become a nun or a monk if you don't mind no sex and living simple
You could also become amish, as long as you don't mind living simple.
Some other things you could do would be , pray, research some of the religions (not just catholic, and chrisitanity, find out of the way no one has heard of religons), but most of all do good, be kind, and do what feels right. In other words live passionatly

If you want to devote to God, do it immediately. What for you are waiting? God does not ask you to do some thing. There is no prescribed method for this. In whatever manner you like, do it. Don't ask questions about this because no ready made answer is there for you query.

Accept with your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, and accept him as your personal Lord and Savior. Spend a great deal of time in Bible study to get a good grasp of the word of God. Serve God in any way that you can through a church or Christian charity organization. You must be saved by faith in The completed work of Jesus Christ at the cross FIRST. Then begin your good works. And avoid the temptation of sin. You must be willing to make a change in your life---throw off the old man and put on a new life in Christ. Jesus loves you. Bless you, my brother.

Know Him. That may sound simplistic, but how you can really someone if you don't know them? Read and study the word, learn of God. Study the life and teachings of Christ, He is God manifest in flesh. Do His will. What is His will? Love God with all your heart, your soul and your mind, and love others as yourself. Study the word to show yourself approved. Share the Gospel with others. Reach out to others in need. Be Jesus to all you meet.

Sounds like you have the desire,
Not just put it to action,
Which If you have the desire,
thats a huge start,
thank God for that desire and then seek him daily.
Talk to him as you would a friend everyday
and not just when you need him.
You can have a prayer in your heart at all times,
not just when you kneel.
Tell Him you want him at the center and core of your life tell him that is your desire and then ask Him to give you the desires of your heart. God is happy to be close to us, its not something He enjoys withholding from us. Its just the more time you spend talking to someone the closer you are to them.

well, that desire is the first step... loving God is like loving someone else. it's not so much an emotion as it is a decision.
READ your Bible (get to know Him)
PRAY to God all the time!
WORSHIP Him through corporate worship at a Church
OBEY His commandements and His Word
REPENT from your sins... not merely say sorry for them, but actually turn AWAY FROM SIN AND TURN TO GOD!!!
That easy

First step; get a frontal lobotomy.
Where you're going, thinking won't be necessarry.
Second, enter the church with your wallet open. Don't look at it when they give it back to you.
Lastly, do whatever the child-molesting wierdo in the suit and collar tells you.
That's about it really.
