I don't know about the frank part. Gout is a buildup of, I think uric acid (?) crystals in the joints--the classic spot is in the joint between the big toe and the foot. It's often aggravated by or caused by rich food--like, fat and too much meat and alcohol. It might be some other kind of crystals, but it's definitely crystals where they're not supposed to be. It hurts. You have to change your diet and there might be meds for it--I can't remember what else I read about it.

I do not think the doctor meant to include the frank in the diagnosis. As you know gout is a defect in purine metabolism leading to deposits of uric acid crystals in joints and pain and swelling in acute episodes.
