This is going to be a downer.
Sadly, yes. We need guidelines and restrictions because we are just a bunch of savages that, when push comes to shove, would just as soon cannibalize each other.
Now for the really sad part (since this is categorized under religion): all attempts to establish such guidelines and restrictions through religions have been, for the most part, incomplete at best and compromised at worst. Our own frailties (prejudices, intolerance, pride, you name it) have made us interprete such guidelines (which may or may not be correct and complete to begin with) incorrectly and selfishly.

There are plenty of guidlines for mankind, but we certainly shouldn't impose fairy tale guidelines on humanity, like the Bible.
The Bible is really just a fake story, perhaps a bit like the Loch Ness monster tales.
When we pass on information to another (example: story, joke, description of something etc) by the time these details are passed on by word of mouth, interpreted by others, and then written down, the final details are typically quite different than the original information.
Since the Bible is just a man-made story passed down over many years in various forms, the chance of it being accurate in any shape or form is remote.
There are people who swear blind that the Loch Ness monster exists regardless of all the evidence to the contrary, but a fence post bobbing up and down in the Loch does the trick. Similarly there are people who swear blind that God exists and the Bible is fact, yet there isn’t one blind bit of evidence to support such theories.
Biblical tales are really no different than Loch Ness monster tales, just the era is different.

no, the guide lines and restrictions only tell you what people do. Nobody makes laws about things that are not a problem normally. If there is a law against theft it is because people steal and it creates problems. The problems are not important unless they effect the important people. Theft is not a big problem for the very poor, they have nothing to steal. It is a problem for the rich and the worst types of theft are those that effect the rich the most.

Yes but unfortunately those who are in charge of determining and enforcing those restrictions are ALWAYS corrupt. Look at the U.S.A and every other country in the world. Notice that the those in charge of determining and enforcing restrictions are ALWAYS quite wealthy. Notice how Congress votes itself raises every year while never raising minimum wage. Notice how all of our senators have free healthcare for the rest of their lives. Where is healthcare for the rest of the country?
This isn't just the U.S.A though... all countries do it.

Have you noticed that when a fight starts between two individuals, both need to feel like their fighting for the just cause. When someone does something rude or ignorant, they tend to justify their actions even if it sounds absurd "ie. i pushed him out of the way because he wouldn't move" Have you noticed how people respect waiting in line ups, they typically won't jump to the front. We all have the knowledge of good and evil and something within us makes us obey. those basic standards. God knew we needed guidelines and built them right in. neat huh.

Yup if you look at civlizations that have risen and fallen you will see that lawlessness is often what lead to destruction. It is possible to have laws without overly restricting people. Restrictions ar needed because we have the potential to harm one another (imagine if we had no traffic laws)...
Hope that helps,

Yes, for without law, there's chaos. Mankind knows the basic differences between right and wrong, but unfortunately his overall lack of morality prevents him from staving off the desires of lust and greed and etc., so we have laws and spiritually attained morals to help guide us.

many people believe that the natural tendency of human is to be good, and just. because of the fall, this is not true... we are totally and utterly depraved creatures, and cannot do good, even if we wanted to. only God can do good through us. to think that we an be a good person without Him is dillusional, and is a trick that satan plays on the gullible. it's romantic to think that everyone has a little good in them, but it is also dangerous

Oh h*** yes, it is called the ten commandments.
To lead a spiritual life involves belief in God and living the commandments. If you do not believe in God, following the commandments can only be for self such as to gain money, reputation, honors, etc.
