no never put mouse or hairspray before ironing!!!! it can ruin the straightening irons!!! i have tried loads but i find one of the best ones is tony & guys heat defence spray i swear by it!!!

you iron your hair or do you mean flat iron? Well anyway you can use anytype of mousse. Just make sure it doesn't have a lot of alcohol in it. That will dry your hair out

Use a product specifically made for use before straight ironing, there are tons out there, they sell them at beauty supply stores. This will protect your hair as well as keep it looking smooth instead of frizzy.

Try a heat-protectant or shine spray, I use Aquage Beyond Shine, this is what they use at the salon as well. Just spritz it on each section before using the iron.

I must be getting old because I didn't know you could iron your hair, I thought you could iron your clothes. oh well if you instist on ironing your hair I would just use a little starch!

for hair straightening...
um I hear that heat sealent works good to protect the heat from the flat iron from burning your hair but I cant find it in stores
