Because all we see from it is violence and hatred. Why would we want to learn more? And they don't bother to show us a different side to it!

Though there are many aspects of Islam that can be proved to be illogical and contradictory, we are going to take just one very important aspect, that is, the Quran.
Since the Quran claims to be free of all error as proof of its inspiration in Sura 85:21,22, the presence of just one error in the Quran is enough to case serious doubt on that claim.
Throughout his early ministry, Muhammad constantly appealed to the Old and New Testament Scriptures as the basis and standard by which his teachings should be judged. He would say that if you wanted to know whether he was speaking the truth, go to the people of the Book and ask them to look in their Scriptures to see whether or not what he was saying was true (Suras 2 to 13, 16 to 17, 20 to 21, 23, 25 to 26, 28 to 29, 32, 34 to 35, 39 to 48, etc.).
The Bible must be the standard which judges all new revelations including the Quran itself. This is simply a point of chronology. Muhammad came 600 years after Jesus Christ.
The Quran thus comes after the completion of the New Testament. The Quran itself claims that it is a continuation of he Bible and it will not contradict it Sura 2:136). What this means logically is that whenever the Bible and the Quran have a conflict or contradiction, the Quran must give way, not the Bible. This is particularly true when the text of the Quran contradicts the text of the Bible.
The Muslim position is that the same God (Allah) revealed the Bible and the Quran. Thus the Quran should never contradict the Bible, otherwise Allah would be contradicting himself. According to Muhammad there will be no conflict between the Bible and the Quran. Why? The Quran must agree with the older revelations because they all supposedly came from the same God.
On the one hand, if the Muslim rejects the Bible, he must also reject the Quran because it appeals to the Bible as God's word. On the other hand, if he accepts the Bible, he still must reject the Quran because it contradicts the Bible. Either way, the Quran loses. It must also be pointed out that the Muslims argue that the Quran must be perfect because would preserve his word infallibly. Yet if God failed to do this for the Bible, as they claim, why should he do this for the Quran?

Because we live in a society that's major religions are judeo-christian. The fouders of the country were christian. So it is in there best interest to keep you ignorant about other religions in the world. The goal is conformity. Also I am not muslim . Alot of you would feel worse about say .... a wiccan. But the statement that Islam teaches violence against jews and chiristians is an outright lie and i can quote any surah to prove that .Please donot confuse radical leftist islamic militants with fundamental Islam they have almost nothing in common.
Blessed be and merry part

I think the majority of people are unaware of or not well-informed about religion in general simply because it is a subject that is complicated, controversial and people are discouraged from openly talking about it.
If people had the freedom to discuss religion, morality, foreign culture and other issues related to Islam or any other religion, there might be enlightenment to be acquired. Political correctness has ushered in an era of silence when it comes to the fundamental issues of faith and how it impacts society and politics and there are people out there determined that we all keep quiet to avoid hurting some poor soul's feelings.
But I think that's a risk worth taking for the sake of open and intelligent dialog across lines of faith. Then we can all learn from each other, whether we're Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Sikh, Atheist or from any perspective.

Why wouldn't they be ignorant of Islam? Most people are ignorant of their own religion. Christianity and Islam both were started as peaceful religions. The so called leaders over the ages changed the basic tenets to feed their own egos and agendas. And both now for the most part, " Kill the Bastards, they're different". As far as I can see, all religions think that their religion is correct, and for the most part frown upon the knowledge of other groups. One is no more guiltier than the other.

beeyfbeebuzz,
Probably because most of the populus has had an a$$load of Islam blowing ppeople up. It kind of gets people to think that it's not like Disneyland. A resentful sort of, " I don't want to know," kind of thing. Maybe Islam perhaps might be a little . . . . overrated?
Maybe with all the hijackings, kidnappings, sodomy, torture, abductions, bombs, and quotes from their leaders, both political and religious, one might get a sense that whatever it is, it's bad.
But don't depend on my answer, I probably know nothing about it.

Since most people get their particular religious denomination from their family and upbringing, I would guess it is because the vast majority of people who founded America were Protestants. I doubt there were many Muslims on the Mayflower. Same as the vast majority of Muslims linking all religions over here to Catholic doctrine. Not all Christians are Catholic. But most of the Muslims I have seen making comments here seem to think they are. I personally think it would behoove all of us to learn more about all religions so that we could have a better understanding of them and perhaps be able to be a little more tolerant. Just because a religion does not match yours it does not make it any less important to the person who believes in that religion.

A GOOD QUESTION !
The Far Left, their Media , and all the PC's want to portray Islam as a warm, and fuzzy Religion. They portray it as a " peaceful religion " when, in fact Islam is anything BUT peaceful ! The very teachings of Islam demand violence against all non Muslims, especially Christians, and Jews !

For the same reason that they are ignorant of Christianity, Wicca, Sihkism etc.
Some people only care to accept the dogma as presented to them without seeking. As stated they are just plain ignorant.
Personally I don't know alot about Islam but I know that most Muslims are caring, law abiding gentle people not fanatics.
I also know some extremist "Christians" that can warp the Bible to portray thier version of the world. They also represent the minority fringe not the general population.

Because of the geniuses in the white house have a grasp on
how to control the majority of the population.
Us Muslims should have educated the population before the 911 government job. May Allah bless the believers who died in the building. But, the table will turn, evil plans, but Allah plans too.
Remember when you were propud to be American and other countries liked us. Not anymore. But the majority of people in the world know that Bush is doing. Leave them alone for now, only Allah can guide them out of the darkness.
