In general, Americans are tolerant but skeptical.

I think the islamic beliefs and ideas are twisted by some islamic extremists to suit their (bad) intentions.... and as a result, the media gets a negative view of islam and a lot of people think it's bad when it is actually intended to be peaceful.

People don't take the time to learn about it, they just say "oh well, they're terrorists, all of them".

Anyway I'm Canadian not American, but close enough I guess!

I cannot speak for all Americans (no one could and be fair, unbiased and wholly accurate)... but I can speak for myself.

I must, humbly, admit to not knowing much about Islam... but from what I have read, and from my understanding, it is a beautiful and peaceful religion. But, sadly, the only time I really hear about it is when there is another horrendous act committed in it's name. Alas, I think that many Americans are only exposed to the "extremists" who destroy... as I am sure many Muslims in certain countries only hear of the awful things that the American (GOVERNMENT) has done or does. Both are inequitable and misleading representations of the other... and that is unfortunate.

I think religion is a beautiful thing... if you take away the corrupt members who twist and defile the teachings in order to justify their acts born of their own weakness, bitterness, hatred and desire for revenge and control. Same goes for politics.

I guess it depends on what type of person you ask.a person who is uneducated on the truth of Islam and gets their info only from what they see on the t.v. or hear from others well their opinion would not be very good i would imagine, then you have your racist groups.you have christians(no disrespect intended olease) who preach on the terror of Islam and how thir God tells them to pray for their emenies and the ones who dont believe,I mostly see alot of hatered from them and most are not following their teachings, but not are like that as in any religion.I am american and I have found every MUslim i have every met to be genuine, caring, peaceful, and the few i had working for me were the hardest of workers.I know if people would open their hearts and study uninfluenced they would see the true beauty of Islam and the high standards that are to be lived by and how we must live moral upstanding lives.dont judge by the actions of a few who have fallen from the true religion .you would not want people to judge you by assosiation. peace

Unfortunatly I think most americans have an ignorant attitude about Islam. They think it is a fundamental religion that is oppresive to women and encorages hate twords the west and Israel. I have friends who are muslim and in under no circumstance have seen that attitude coming from them, although they aren't very religious.
I think that the religion is very simmilar to traditional (orthodox) Judism in many ways. I think the fact that women are oppressed is because the husbands aren't treating their wives correctly and that many of the muslims in the middle east who hate Jews are ignorant.

I think as with all religions zealots usurp them.

Islam seems to be growing in it's fanatical hatred of the west and peaceful islamic leaders won't condemn these people, and side with the west to bring an end to the terror created by these islamo-fascists that want global sharia.

I think we need let lose the dogs of war on fundamentalist islam. I think we need to level there ability to fight a propaganda war, which means we need to level a good portion of leftist media that supports these people over their own country.

We need to fight fire with fire. If one bomb goes off we go after the family of the suicide bomber. we need to tip our bullets with pigs blood as Black Jack Pershing did in the philippines in the 1890s

This sh&t has to be stopped.

as an american i can tell you that i don't know really anything about islam. i know only what i hear on the news.
what i think is that every religion has good and bad qualities in it.
has good and bad people in it.
i don't believe every muslim is a terrorist. if your religion brings peace and love to your heart and helps to make you a better person than it can't be all bad.

I guess it would epend on who you ask. If you asked a Muslim American they would probably think it is wonderful. If you ask someone who lost a family member in the World Trade Center, they would probably tell you how evil they think it is.

Please don't judge us all based on what a few people say or do. And that should go for Christians and Muslims. One person (or group) does not always reflect beliefs correctly.
