Hi, my dog has really bad snarls behind her ears. I normally take very good care of her major brushing needs. But we just moved and things have been busy! Now that I am finally settled I have been working on her hair. I have cut them! Brushed them! Given her a bath. But I cant seem to get rid of the huge snarl! Does anyone else have a goldne and now a trick?

We have a lab with longer hair... maybe she has a "HOT SPOT" ...what you need to do ASAP is get a razor/clippers and shave her to the skin. If she has like blotches that are discolored she has a hot spot. You can put anti boitic cream on it .. If it doesnt get better by Sunday ..Monday u need to take her to a vet for care. ( its easier to do it ourside and give her a bath or it will end up all over the place

be sure to wash your hands and buy her a new collar ( it will still carry the infection on it..keep the little kids away from her) Wash all of her blankets and sanitize her kennel.

This doesnt mean you are a bad pet owner either. Our dog had one at xmas time and another just a bout a month ago. I did not notice her collar rubbing on her.

She will feel so much better..

Give her a pat for me and good luck...

You need to split the mat with a mat splitter, or I have used one of those envelope splitters that has a little edge you run under the flap and a protected razor balde to split the paper. Be careful, because you couold injure the dog if you slip. Once you split the snarl into smaller pieces you can brush it out more easily. Also try a good detangler spritz.

I have a Golden and this happened to me once. I took him to the groomer and she cut it out. It is a good idea to get your Golden's groomed professionally because of this problem. Ever since I started to get him groomed I have not seen this problem again. Hope this helps.

It's called MATTED!!!
NEVER wash anything until COMPLETELY combed out!(now you know how FELT is made)!
Didja get that?
COMBED.Steel comb.
Take it in to a PRO & have that area clippered this time.

The teeth have little barbs on them, it is great for gently getting out the worst of the matt.

However, if the matt is REALLY bad, call a few groomers and find one that will just shave out behind the ears.

You just need to cut it out. Cut as close to the skin as possible--you should probably get someone to hold her still for you so you don't cut her.

You can clip it out with scissors.
