I've never inflicted harm on my son to test how much he REALLY loves me, or because somebody dared me to;

I've never abandoned him or thrown him out of the house because he didn't listen to me;

I've never told him that he was unworthy of my love or that he "owed" me for giving him life;

I've never punished him for playing with other adults or showing them respect while in their homes;

When he's misbehaved, I haven't held it over his head for the rest of his life;

Does this make me a better father than the Christian God?

Oh, I'll GLADLY talk blasphemy, Matt, thank you very much! Even assuming your biblegod DOES exist, he's got a whole lot of 'splainin' to do before I'll deem him worthy of my love and devotion...

Blue Butterfly haas apparently never heard of the Story of Job -- Joe Hovah putting his perfect and righteous Job through the wringer (destroying his fortune, killing off Job's children, and inflicting Job himself with disease) on bet with Satan is EXACTLY what I'm talking about....

And I'm not simply talking about Jesus (who is biblegod's son but is also him....whatever that gibberish is supposed to mean?); I'm talking about you, me, the rest of us. Remember back to Sunday School? "Jesus loves the little children/All the children of the Lord..." and all that jazz.

You have been trying to be a good father you know how. As he grows older, he's to be a responsible person on his own.

I think you do not understand God at all, and have taken offense to what you think you understand. It might be best to narrow down each topic so that you can get better answers. God is really kind and loving, but you perceive him as cruel. With the Job example, God had been extremely generous to Job before his test, and blessed him abundantly after the test was over, giving him more than when he started. The test was to proove job's faithfulness even when all is wrong. The test was only about a week long. God is also very forgiving, and does not punish for hte rest of your life.

Satan is a different issue. He can torment us and then convince us it is God.

Soleil Noir,
It sounds like you are being as good a father as you think you can be. No points off for that. But you are only as good about that a sinner can be. You can't see what God can.

Your comparison seems heartfelt. Yet this one I feel the direction to comment on:
"When he's misbehaved, I haven't held it over his head for the rest of his life;"
Neither would you be, you just have to trust Him for it. If your child didn't trust you, things would get a little, touchy, wouldn't they? you know you cannot demand perfection from your kid, he's incapable of doing that/ But what you can expect from him is trust. If he trusts you, with a word you can direct him out of trouble and danger. Otherwise he will just look at you while the trouble comes.

It's the same with God. You have to trust Him. The stakes ar much higher, you have eternity at stake. But the principles are the same. You will get nowhere with understanding God if you don't set into your heart to trust Him.

I hope I made that clearer than I thought I did! lol

He didn't do it because Satan dared him to. And He didn't do it to test how much his Son loves Him. God did it so that a way could be provided for humans to stop dying. Humans were and are dying because they inherited sin from Adam. Jesus provided a perfect life to replace the one Adam gave away (by committing sin). It is that justice system that is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a perfect life for a perfect life (and that is why we couldn't repay it, because we don't have perfect lives).

Don't forget, we are sons and daughters of God too. Jesus held true to keeping his life perfect and went through with the death when he didn't have to, which suggests he wanted to die for us to help us, so this isn't just God's idea (or rather, that God did it without Jesus agreeing it was necessary). While your reasoning makes some sense (and so I don't consider it blasphemous since you are trying to learn why), you aren't using all the reasoning provided by the Bible and so your premise will end wrong unless you use the whole of the Bible to understand God's plan and why it is necessary.

Wow ... the desperate lengths to which some people will go to discredit God, faith, and religion!

Your posting is just the latest example of this desperation.

The "Christian God" is totally innocent of all that you've accused Him of.

Come, let us count the ways:

>>>I've never inflicted harm on my son to test how much he REALLY loves me, or because somebody dared me to<<<

Neither did God. He did not inflict harm on His Son. Nor was Jesus being tested to show how much He loved His Father. Some VERY glaring misconceptions about Christianity here.

Ignorance is no excuse for making false accusations.

>>>I've never abandoned him or thrown him out of the house because he didn't listen to me<<<

Who has God done this to? Anybody who goes to hell, goes there by choice. Anybody who goes there, has thrown God out of their lives -- it's not a case of God throwing them out of the house.

>>>I've never told him that he was unworthy of my love or that he "owed" me for giving him life<<

Give me one example of God ever telling anybody either of these things? Nah, don't bother -- because you can't.

>>>I've never punished him for playing with other adults or showing them respect while in their homes<<<

Huh? No offense, but your perception of God -- maybe even of reality in general -- is getting further and further off the mark with each comment.

>>>When he's misbehaved, I haven't held it over his head for the rest of his life<<<

If you believe God actually does this to people, then you are REALLY misinformed and ignorant.

>>>Does this make me a better father than the Christian God?<<<

Nobody could possibly be a better father than God. That's no negative reflection on you; it's a positive reflection on Him.

What does worry me, though, is that your comment is so riddled with misinformation and ignorance, that I worry that your gross misperceptions of Christianity are going to be passed on to your children.

That would do no favors to Christians, or to your children.

No it doesn't, God is my Father and when you get to know Him, he is the best father you could ever have.

Believe me, God does not inflict harm to test someone or because someone dared him too. Satan is the one who causes harm, God may allow it because it is for your good or someone elses.

He doesn't abandon you unless you tell him too or ignore him long enough that he knows you aren't interested. He isn't going to force anyone to listen to him or love him back.

And we are unworthy for his love.

He doesn't punish us for playing with other adults. or respecting them.

And when we sin, he forgives us again and again and died in our place so we don't have to die and could live forever.

NO ONE is a better father than God. Thanks for listening.

That makes you a better parent than most of us.
I fully expect to toss my children out for challenging me; in the future.
The rest of that, I would never do, but many parents have.

Your man invented moral codes are not God's. God is beyound this physical universe. You belong to Him, as do I, and he can do with you and I as he wishes.

You may do,not do, be, think, act, be all that you can be, in this mortal world. Grab all that you can... But, in the end, it is still God who makes the rules. You do not. You can choose not to follow God's rules if you so choose... But, in The End, be prepaired to accept the concequences of your choises.
