i'm not sure about before the tournament, but one thing i've started doing that is effective is purposely relaxing my shoulders before every shot. i found that i used to get anxious about my shot and my shoulders would tighten up and it was a recipe for disaster. since i started relaxing my shoulders, i can pull the trigger sooner and i am hitting much straighter and more consistently. if you do this, your tournament jitters might only last for the first shot or two.

Competition makes us all edgy. Practice before hand at the club holding the tournament so you have an advantage to those that have never played there before. Also, remember, that although it's competition that you have to be able to enjoy the sport too. Remember, there will be more tournaments in the future and don't focus on drive, focus on accuracy.

Just relax and have fun! That's the important part. Golf isn't always about driving the ball crazy distances, it's about ball placement and making it to that hole with the fewest strokes.
Oh, and have a few beers or cocktails before and during :)

I often have trouble on the first hole, then I calm down after that. Sometimes I try to just play it safe on the first hole with nice and easy shots, and other times I try to ignore my jitters and be aggressive. I don't know which works better.

get to the putting green early - studies show that when you focus on your putting before a tournament, it puts you in a good "golf" frame of mind - instead of banging dozens of balls on the range, work on your greenside chipping and putting - you will be much more relaxed and you'll score better because you'll have an idea of how the greens are rolling that day

Practice Meditation and don't even try to drink. The other way is easier just sleep. It is unbelievable but it DOES the trick.
Good Luck!

Hum a catchy tune in your head. Think of all of the other guys dying of your choice (I like spontaneous heart attacks :p). Just don't think of it as a tournament, think of it as another day in the life. After all, it is just for fun, right?
