I have two budgerigars. Everytime they get ready to sleep they start making a wierd nibbling sound. Is that normal ? Why are they doing it ?

Most parrot type of bird do this sometime and it is the grating of their lower beak inside the upper beak. Its like you yawning, a sign that they are tired and about to go to sleep.

does it sound like a grinding noise?
if so, most parrots do that before they turn in (mind you, not all). i belive it's a comfort "tick" for them. i guess it's equivilant to a dog circling around a few times before he lays down ... just getting comfortable.
