Oh one time I had an older man who kept talking to me and had horrid breath. I had to act like I wasn't interested in what he was talking about to get him to stop huffing it in my face.

BO is harder to escape. I say try your hardest to put up with it. If you wear cologne put some on your wrists... I do that every day not so much because I need to smell good but because whenever there is a foul smell I just keep smelling my wrists. You could bring some sort of air freshener if you're really bothered by smells... or buy magazines with perfume samples. Remember that if it is an overseas flight especially people may have not been able to shower in a few days and have been sweating in plane seats trying to sleep... so be as sympathetic as you can.

Finally if the plane isn't totally crammed you might ask a stuardess discretely if you could be moved (act like you are going to the bathroom if you must). Nonchallantly take the seat she gives you (you shouldn't have to say much... just that another passenger is bothering you or offending you or something) and leave your overhead bags where they are so as not to cause a scene.

Complain to the flight attendant and then to the ground personnel upon arrival, you could be comped for free future flight. As for the immediate dilemma, you would be out of luck. Mouth breathing and frequent long trips to the restroom are your best recourse. With the new restrictions on liquid carry-on items, you can't even wait "till they fall asleep to spritz 'em with cologne. Perhaps being rudely forward with them will save the next person they fly with from your misery.
I guess one could always fake some medical problem which would require being laid down in the back of the plane though.

My suggestion is to grab a magazine and as discreetly as possilbe use it as a fan to move the air back to him--he should catch on pretty fast! Maybe he has some deordorant with him in his carry on. Otherwise, look for an empty seat somewhere else or tell the steward you paid for a seat and you didn't pay for bad BO!!!

Sorry this happened to you. Speak to the flight staff they may be able to allow you to sit in one of their seats barring serious turbulence or upgrade you and seat you in first class for relief. Most flight staff are very much willing to do anything they can.

Stirke up a conversation like... "man it was pretty hot in the airport hey?" - and hope the response is similar to "Yeah - I was sweating like a pig!" - then out of your hopefully not banned carry on offer them some of your handy roll on deoderant (as you're obviously not allowed the aerosol kind on an airplane).

When at your detination you may wish to bin the roll on and buy a new deoderant dependant upon attractive you found your smelly neighbour.

Put on some aftershave or in the case of a lady some perfume, then accidentally drop the bottle over them, they will do one of two things after they hit you. that's either sit with it on, which would be OK cos you like the smell of your own fragrance, or they will go and wash it of making them BO free.

I would go to the restroom and speak to the flight attendant and stay forward with them. They probably have an extra jump seat you could use for landing. Or if that fails, pull down your oxygen mask! (I don't think that would really work, thought) Phew!!! good luck.

Get up to stretch your legs frequently.

Stand in the aisle & read a paperback.

Move to the back of the plane temporarily where there may be some pull down seats.

Speak to the steward or stewardess privately and ask if they can do anything to help you.'

I'd have to say something. Something like, "This is very awkward but I'm afraid you have terrible BO, could you possibly go and wash your armpits?". He or she will be frightfully embarrassed but will oblige I'm sure. There really is no excuse for it, after all.
I'm always one to say something if someone is out of line. I know most people sit back, say nothing and take it, but they always thank me for having the guts to say something when they didn't.

Tell the flight attendants. They deal with that all the time. They have tactful ways of telling this person to go wash up!
