let me just give you some background info:
i've been "christian" all my life (born that way...i guess) but only recently have i opened up a bible and really get interested in the christian religion

my question is...how can all these tales be believed?

it's so unbelievable that i can't believe people really believe in this. i believe there is a God...there are so many miracles that has happened with no reasonable answer and so we call it "God's work". i've been talking to my pastor about these stories and how crazy these tales are (splitting of water, food for millions from just a piece of bread...etc)

i feel like it is very odd that we (anyone who believes the words of the bible) believe in this stuff. i know there is a God, and there's definetly a Satan...but what's what about these stories?

i'm definetly not trying to defame christianity, i'm just questioning like any other confused person.

okay, there was a story in the bible about those egyptians getting hurt for not letting the isrealites go (is that correct so far?) and got put so many things into egypt so they can get hurt (no more food, people injured, babies dead)...1st off, God was the one who kept hardening the egyptian king's heart over and over again so the king was bound to not let them go. 2nd, why would God do all those horrible things to egypt when the isrealites were doing bad things after they were saved (yes God can see the future...he should've known ahead of time).

also, why would this man die on a cross for our sins? he himself didn't want to do it but because his father told him to do so, he did...God just makes people suffer.

sorry, my mistake...i'm NOT a christian then...i'm just "finding myself" in religion.

but i like christianity because of how everyone has a meaning to living and how it's filled with happiness.

is that a good thing to say? or is that wrong too?

hey its ok, i was the same way when i was christian, infact i still ask that to msyelf all the time. the best logical answer ive come up with is that first off: The bible was written by man. Man is full of sin. Hense the Bible can not be written without sin in it.
second: im sure everyone here has exaggerated to some point sometime in their life no? i know the spider i saw last night was over a foot in diameter ;) that leads me to believe that some things are little bit smaler then what is written, im sorry i cant believe that samson killed 1000 philistines with a donkeys jawbone, or singlehandedly captured 300 foxes and tied their tails to torches. i think a lot of things have been thrown in to exaggerate certain points.

I'm in the same boat, I sure believe in a heaven and hell, but some of the scriptures seem too good to be true. Like you, I'm not trying to give Christianity a bad rep. Regardless of if the scripture is exactly what occurred or not, what is most important is being able to understand why it would be documented and what can be gained by reading it. Even if Moses did or didn't spread the sea, what can be gained is the suffering that the Israelites endured and the faith they had to keep with Moses and God in order to reach the holy land.

You need to find some people that have experienced some real miraculous healings or other supernatural things. Then you will see that these supernatural things are possible. Like this story:
There once was a woman that wanted the Lord to use her to really minister to people. She had been praying for weeks that the Lord would use her. Finally on her way home from work the Lord spoke to her spirit and told her to stop at the next gas station, go in and do a head stand in front of the coke machine. She could hardly believe what she heard and so for the next few miles before she got to the gas station she argued with the Lord. "I can't do that, people will think I'm crazy."
Finally she resolved that she would be obedient even if people thought she was crazy. So she pulled into the gas station went in and did a head stand in front of the coke machine. As soon as she stood up she looked at the person behind the counter who was crying. He said, "I've been so upset I wanted to kill myself, and I told the Lord I would only believe in Him if someone did a headstand in front of the coke machine." She was used of the Lord that day. Miraculous things happen everyday.....

If you actually read the Bible, it becomes pretty clear pretty quickly that you have to assume things and take things on faith. The Bible doesn't make much sense if you think about it: if the Bible is to be believed, then there is a highly schizophrenic paranoid superior being with sadistic tendencies creating, destroying, and killing at will for a secret master plan that only he gets anything out of. It's a pretty silly way to explain the unknown...

How can you call yourself a Christian if you don't believe in God's promises? Going to a church or a children's or teen's group does not make you a Christian. Having parents who claim to be Christians does not make you a Christian. Believing in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior makes you a Christian.
I also believe that your terminology, "Christian religion" is an oxymoron. Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a relationship between you and God. That relationship is nurtured through studying the Bible, praying, worshipping God with other Christians, and exercising faith in God.

Listen ,you have to understand who God is, and i dont wish for you to be insulted or offended, but you dont know God yet, He most surely is capeable of all these stories and yes they have actually taken place. Yes , each one of them !
If you listen to the worlds view of the Bible , you will be even more confused than ever, so i suggest that you dont.
By all the stories in the Bible we can not only get to know God better but we can understand his personality and characteristics, but we can learn life changing messages from them, for our own lives.

If you believe in God and miracles, you're going to have to get a lot more specific on what in the Bible you don't believe. It's basically a collection of God's dealings with people, most of which are considered to be miracles. What is it that you are taking issue with?

I was in that position once, and I realized that if I believed in God, the same God that created the Earth, then why can't the God that created the WHOLE EARTH move a little bit of water, or feed a few thousand people.

(Sorry, but you weren't born a Christian. That's not how you become one. It's real important that you don't let yourself keep thinking that. One telltale sign is that you look at writings in the Bible as tales.)

These aren't stories. They're historical recordings. Written by man but inspired by the Holy Spirit.
