doctors are so quick to prescribe meds for people that just need to change their lives up a little bit.
they make money on your prescription.a medical doctor will prescribe drugs to ''help'' you and a shrink will tell you to come back for more therapy.
i started to take excellent care of myself.good diet
,excercise, got enough sleep and got away from toxic people in my life and was able to get off and stay off those nasty antidepressants and all their side effects.
i hope this message helps somebody rethink their solution for depression.

There are multiple forms of depression. One can be changed by lifestyle, and the other that is caused by a hormonal/chemical imbalance. If someone is depressed because their boyfriend left them, most likely the meds won't help them, but if they are depressed and can't figure out why. Their life is good, they make enough money, family is great, etc. It could be. I am with you, doctors should not be so quick to prescribe medication, but sometimes it is required.

I agree almost completely with you. However, there are some people that do need the meds as they are manic and melancholy. Years ago when women went through menopause, they put some of them in Luney bins! That was a hormonal imbalance. Being that I have gone through that, I now understand that you may need meds then too.

You are right on with a good healthy diet and life.

Most doctors screen for depression looking at several weeks or months of symptoms. If you're bored for that long, you could get depressed. And if you doctor just prescribes meds without any form of therapy or other cognitive activity, get a new doctor.

Well I am definately not bored. I appreciate what you have to say about meds though. My therapist is strongly suggesting that I go to my doctor & ask to be put on anti-depressants, but I am a pilot, & that could seriously affect my ability to fly. So I am resisting the temptation to go on pills. However, I am depressed often, & my work is seriously affected (don't worry I don't work for any airlines) I am overweight, & the thought that diet & exercise could end my depression is intriguing.

There are different kinds of depression. If its very short termed then its probably not real depression. If you are depressed for weeks on end, crying and maybe have suicidal thoughts then thats real depression & meds can definitely help. Sometimes you may have to try different brands & different strengths but they can really help when you find the right one!

some people can actually be depressed and going to shrinks and doctors can ACTUALLY help them. but i guess sometimes, your right. also, some doctors choose to prescribe meds to people that wont actaully do anything. its a mental thing that they use to make the person feel like its working and that they will be all better. so the mental uplift people get from fake meds, can actually, in turn, help them!
