I hate to disagree with so many of the answers given so far, but your aunt has a psychotic illness that needs to be assessed by a psychiatrist. It is not the same as Alzheimers disease.

My grandmother went thru this when she was first moved into a senior's home (from her own home).....it was just stress and a kind of breakdown.........she did snap out of it after a fee weeks of adjustment! Hope you aunt snapps out of it and it's nothing too serious! If it doesn't ...have the family take her to the doc!

it could be a few things; dementia, depression, or schizophrenia, or maybe medical i.e. UTI. The real question is how did start? If it has been a long process over years it could be schizophrenia. If it was over months, it could be dementia. If this started yesterday it could be a UTI. All these things require her to go to a doctor ASAP

it's normal. it's her age talking. just get her the proper help. Most elderly people become this way. It's just a stage in the life cycle. She is not crazy.
