I mean people say it's bad, but how? Is it just because it's a sin, or is it bad for your health too? And why is it so hard to stop masturbating?

Google Dr. Lin..he has some really interesting facts on his site. One of them being how over masturbation can ruin the amount of semen produced and cause a female to go "numb" and not be able to reach orgasm. Enjoy

The people who say that masturbation is bad may be sexually repressed or have grown up with this way of thinking. Some religions teach that it's "bad" and a sin. Again, this stems from sexual repression and the Fundamentalist belief that one must suffer in this life to get to heaven and that pleasure is a sin.

Masturbation isn't inherently bad for one's health, however using soiled hands or contaminated objects is obviously not a healthy idea. Neither is continued masturbation in the presence of irritation.

It's difficult to stop because it can become a habit and even an addiction. It feels good and no other participants are required. You don't need to have social skills, be a good conversationist, be good looking or dress well, etc. to find sexual release. And it's free. You don't have to buy your hand dinner or flowers. You don't have to get it drunk first. And in the morning, you don't have to search for something to say to it or get dressed and sneak out while it's still asleep. Now the kind of addiction the fellow above me is referring to is a rare occurrence.

As for masturbation causing "desensitivity, soreness, reduced sperm count and reduced endurance", hell, plain old male-female sex does that!

All in all, there are a lot of advantages to masturbation. Of course there is a downside, too.

As long as you don't find yourself obsessing about it and looking for dark corners wherever you go, you're fine. Don't worry about it.

I'm only aware of one known possible negative side effect. If you are trying to have children then masturbation by the man will lower his sperm count. On the other hand making sure that the woman reaches orgasm during sex can increase the likelihood of pregnancy.

I really wish the religious nuts would stop tossing out the term, "sexual addiction". There is no such disorder; check with the American Psychiatric Association. Most of the other nonsense about it causing pedophilia or replacing real relationships is incredibly silly.

If a guy does it too much, he may not be able to perform for his girl unless he stares at his own hand.

Sorry, that was gross. It can lead to desensitivity, soreness, lower sperm count, and reduced endurance for guys. I read about it in college while studying reproductive and urinary disorders.

It is a sin in many major religions, ut can have some health effects as listed above.

As with any gratifying experience (drink, drugs, tobacco, ripping on George Bush, etc), once you fall into a cycle of activity, it becomes very hard ot break that cycle since your physical memory recalls the sensations and motions, as well as the mind depending upon the stimulation. Replace the masturbation with something else ( a hobby, reading, whatever works for you) and you are more likely to be successful. That is part of the reason smokers often chew a lot of gum when they attempt to quit, and that was even before nicotine gums.

The only real concern is that it may impair social skills.

As far as health issues go, unless you use a power drill or a Cuisinart, your body will let you know that you are masturbating too much.

Much of the religious prohibition comes from a "misuse of commodity" issue.

The sex drive is pretty strong and must be addressed. If you won't, you body will take care of matters with wet dreams.

According to my doctor friend, monito™ / sixxx has it close. In addition to addiction, it can have the psychological effects that every addiction has: interfereing with work, the ever climbing need to a greater stimulation (toys, voyeurism, exhibitionism, bi-curious,) which can lead to different abhorrent sexual outlets: pedophilia, incest, bi-curiousity in public parks and other illegal stimuli.
Often, "perverts" claim massive mbing in their youth.
Hope that helps.
As far as it being impossible to quit, the sex drive is very demanding, the more you feed it, the more hungry it gets. As a base need---and a convinient one, at that---it is the thing that usually starts your introduction to a sex life that must be fulfilled one way or another (just ask prison-bitches).
Hope that helps too.

I think it's a natural thing...even animals do it! Religions always like to impose their ways causing confusion in people's mind. These rules are largely betrayed by those telling you not to do it, doing even worse...so get rid of that sense of guilt because there's no reason to think it's bad. The only negative thing could be if you do it too much. It's like eating...Too much is unhealthy...

Masturbation is like most things ... it's OK in moderation. When it becomes an excessive habit ... you can become your own best friend ... a bit of a recluse. You know ... a real jack-off.
