I'm not a Rhodes Scholar ; but it takes one to decipher some questions , only to find that it made no sense anyway . Then lo-and behold , nine times out of ten ,when you come across one of these gems- there is one equally non-sensical answer that is mysteriously a" best answer" to a question that was as unintelligible as the answer ; along with the fact that is was the ONLY "answer".

Some people just like to wear their ignorance as if it's a badge of honor. It's really sad when you think about it. But what can we do besides shake our heads and complain?

Interesting observation. Quite right as far as I can tell too. I am not sure it's simply restricted to Yahoo Answers however, as the inexplicable and intensely annoying rash of incoherent and misspelled ramblings on the web seems to be prevalent with no end in sight! It appears as if people, especially teens, are just plain lazy and in some cases, rather illiterate. It is very disconcerting. I think the rise of internet use has been a huge detriment to our culture's ability to express itself properly through the written word. Instant messaging, chatrooms and the like have reduced society to writing in shorthand. Add to that the fact that chatters and IM'ers also tend to be writing in many conversations at the same time at a high speed, and you have a recipe for literary disaster.
*shakes head* Let's bring back pen and paper.

Got me. I definitely have some misspellings or accidental dropping of letters in my answers because I'm typing away quickly and won't wait for the spell checker that works half of the time.
I was starting to think people think it's cool and are deliberately misspelling some words.
It's a bit disturbing to see things incorrect usage like:
Is their a way to buy...
Your not serious, are you
You are way to wrong
Ugh.

Here's what sucks. Anytime a person, such as yourself, points out this highly irritating fact, other answerers take it upon themselves to pick that person apart. "Oh, you need a comma here." "Didn't you spell this word wrong?" "There needs to be a hyphen here."
I just want to say that there is a big difference between making a few slight mistakes or typos and being lazy and stupid!

I think us literates need to club together and make a promise:-
- never answer to those text type messages on Yahoo Answers because otherwise we are encouraging them to talk more incoherently
-obviously there are typo errors (by myself also) but it's when there are serious grammatical errors and the actual sentence lacks any coherence whatsoever..
So who is in favour of making this pledge? Raise your hands now...
Peace and love

Now imagine being a teacher and having to read this type of verbal diarrhea on a daily basis... There are even colleagues who can't spell, and who are not even embarrassed about it.

In my opinion it is simply a lackadaisical attitude to grammar and spelling.

Illiterately-composed should be hyphenated.
Otherwise, yeah.
