Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do for short term child care while my sitter takes maternity leave?
I don't have any family nearby that I would trust with my kids and I just moved to a new community a few months ago and don't know anyone. We only have two neighbors in our area and neither of them have children.
Also, it will be during the school year, so using a high school student will not work either.
Any suggestions would be most helpful. My kids will be 5 and 1 at the time.

Contact your local Department of Human Services and they should have a list of licensed day cares in your area, large as well as smaller home day cares. Also, call around to local churches, especially ones that have preschools in them, and ask if they know of anyone in the church that provides child care. Whether or not you attend church, asking a church if they know of anyone will be a little safer than placing or answering an ad in the paper. Good luck.

Yeah-I think an ad in the paper would be nice. You would just have to really screen good. You could always ask around-like get references from local churches. They usually would know who are the stay-at-home mommies, child care-givers etc. Otherwise, I would ask your sitter for any references. I see that you live in WI...I am a stay-at-home mommy of 4. (6,5,3,and 7mo.) If I may ask-what city? I might be able to help.

look in the yellow pages for a babysitting ad or the internet! just hire a sitter but have an interview and have a practice day practice to make sure the sitter is responsible and trustworthy enough for your children. or of course look for daycare centers. remember: ask a lot of questions and you'll get a lot of answers!
good luck!

have you thought about calling a local church to see if they have anyone to suggest? i'm not a religious person, but at least it's a place to start and you could get references. try calling some daycare centers in the phone book. i know they are pricey but it is only temporary. good luck. i'd help out if i could.

If we lived close I would watch them for you.
Check posting up at the stores and such and call them to see if anybody could watch them for the few weeks.
Believe me I know it's hard I had to quit my job when the sitter had her baby. But she still expected to get paid.

What about a trusted childcare center. It might cost a bit more, but it would be a safe solution to your problem. Do some research and visit a lot of centers. Ask a lot of questions.

you could place an ad in your local newspaper, I bet there is a stay at home mom that could use a little extra money for a couple months!
