I pretty much always get a wash, but is there a specific reason for it? Does it make it easier for the stylist? Is there any time when I shouldn't get a wash?

I would say it helps the stylist, It'll be clean, fresh, and nice and wet, take it from someone who knows. Good luck on the outcome!

They wash your hair so that's the hair is weighed down from the water. It makes it easier to cut to ensure all the hair is the right length. When you get a cut on dry hair, the hairs that are fly-aways, or frizzing or whatever, don't get cut the same length. You can end up with an uneven cut.
The only time you shouldn't get a wash is when you are getting it styled, not cut. If you are going to a prom, wedding, or other even and you are getting your hair done at the salon, the natural oils make it easier to style, and hold longer.

My hair always gets washed. Even if I tell them I just washed it and it's still damp, they will wash it again.
Maybe it makes it easier for them... I don't know. My salon doesn't charge for it if I'm getting my hair cut. So I don't care cause it feels great!
I think the only places that haven't washed my hair first if I don't want it to be is First Choice Hair cutters.

I think if you don't want a wash, they will spray your hair with water to wet it down, because wet hair, I think, is easier to cut. On haircutting days, I don't wash my hair in the shower, I just wait to get it washed there, and, it feels so good having it washed at the salon.

all the bumps or kinks in ur hair could make the haircut turn out looking uneven. if it's all wet and straight the haircut will come out even.
