I'm an eclectic so I don't believe that any single religion gives all the answers. I believe that the best way to grow spiritually is to constantly explore/learn - read about christianity, islam, buddhism, taoism, hinduism, mythology, philosophy, science, etc. There is no map, only small hints here and there.

the traditional religions are more about social control

I'm a fam-trad Wiccan/Unitarian Universalist.
Since Wicca is a nature-centered religion, the large majority of beliefs differ from traditional religions. The people that identify themselves as Wiccan are a very diverse, ecclectic group unto themselves, and each of us holds beliefs that are usually a bit different from the next. As a UU, I believe that everyone needs to find their own path, what ever that might be.

No religion just a relationship with God. Jesus tells the religious experts when they asked what the greatest command is? To love God, love others as you would yourself. All the coulda, woulda, shoulda's don't matter because God looks at your heart and only God, not me, you or anyone else. Love is my motivation in life and that is satisfactory.
