Religion: Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.

Superstition: An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.

Looks the same to me!

Superstitions make more sense to me.

Also, less people die in the name of superstition.

See, there *is* a difference!

There is absolutely no proof to a superstition. Religion on the other hand, while it does not have absolute proof, does have some proof to it (meaning that is hasn't been removed from the realm of possibility yet). Your question suggests that you don't believe in any religion, which is fair. But remember, evolution doesn't have absolute proof either (there is enough to keep it from being removed from the realm of possibility as well, but not enough to say it happened beyond a shadow of a doubt), and that would put it into the realm of superstition also by your current standard for religion.

My basic idea here is, don't be so dismissive of others' beliefs because they don't fit in with your own. Keep your mind open, hope that others keep their mind open (evolution may in the end prove to be true, though I don't believe that at the moment), and always continue to learn.

It's basically the same.
a superstition is not as broad. It usually deals with a narrow course of events as you say.
Religion is similar because people explain something they don't understand on a God or spirit as well as superstition. But religion more broadly encompasses every aspect of life. Where a superstition usually covers a moment in time.

Religion has doctrine, and superstition doesn't. I mean, there's no superstition bible or anything, it's usually based on word of mouth or one's own personal experiences. Not to mention religious types get offended when you make fun of their beliefs, whereas people aren't going to get that defensive when someone laughs at them for crying about a broken mirror. But I get your point. Same crap, different attitude.

Primarily in that Superstition tells you what not to do, mostly, while Religion primarily tells you what to do, for the most part.

Superstition also has nothing to do with creation - it is more associated with luck. Now if you want to say lady luck and god are the same person...

Peace!

What is different is the reaction of people when somebody tells them he/she believes in god and he/she believes that a black cat is bad luck.
Nobody dares to laugh or to point out the lack of reason and logic in religion.
Nobody dares not to laugh when somebody talks about superstition!

Base wrong...it is not a supernatural power...more a supernormal one. If there was supernatural behaviour, then it would not be natural for human being use. We live in natural law...that is not supernatural.

Depends upon the number of people holding the superstition and the group to which you belong.

I.e.: I am religious, you are superstitious, he is an idiot.
