Windows has a build in program for sending and receiving faxes if you have a modem in the computer and a phone line to attach it . The software is NOT installed by default.
Go to the Control Panel > Add and remove programs icon > Add Windows Components (in the bar on the left) > Communciations and chech the box for the fax services. Once installed, you can hook to a phone line and send and receive faxes.

....In windows you have something called Winmessaging and Winfax. It IS free since it comes with your "Operating System" or OS. Just install it your self. You need the Original disk to do this.
