Maybe the picture tube blew? If you have sound and can change channels (you can tell by the sound) then it is time for a new TV unless you like an oversized radio.

If you have a cable box, you may just need to make sure the tv is on while the cable box is on. I know our remote sometimes turns off the cable box when we turn on the tv. It's bizarre, but it does seem to be off and not working when it really isn't

the picture tube is NOT broke. very unlikey anything happened to the tube itself. If you have sound you most likey have bad connections to the horizontal drive transformer, if not then you probably have a shorted horizontal output transistor and/or bad flyback transformer.

sounds like the tube went out....depending on how much you spent on the tv you can have it fixed at a repair shop
