I had to change my solcial security number because of domestic violence so the normal roads of assistance are not available to me. I have no problem working and taking care of my own but i am in a really bad situtation right now and don't see any way out .......any suggestions would help.

Can I get a new Social Security number assigned?
Although Social Security does not routinely assign new numbers, we will do so to help protect you when evidence shows you are being harassed or abused or your life is endangered.
Applying for a new number is a big decision. It may impact your ability to interact with federal and state agencies, employers and others. This is because your financial, medical, employment and other records will be under your former Social Security number and name (if you change your name). If you expect to change your name, we recommend you do so before applying for a new

You dont state where you are,but from where I have been
yes there is help...without changing ss number, which I dont understand. But I was in your shoes at one time, except I only have 3 kids. There are battered womens shelters all over the place, that will get you off the streets, keep you safe, and help you start fresh. The bottom line is you truly have to want better for yourself and kids and you have to work for it.I know how really scared you must feel, and I know you think right now there is no way......but one day at a time, and dont think beyond today, walk through the steps today and the rest will follow....If you dont know of a battered womens shelter, call the police in your area, they will know where one is,and if you have no car they will even take you there.I promise one thing...This to shall pass.

Hello, well you are leaving out some great amount of detail. I can't really give you good advice because I don't know if you change your SSN due to criminal reason or for you own personal safety as a victim of domestic violence. However, if you are really in need you can go to a church, or shelter, and or go to your local non-profit community outreach center. In the worst of situations go to the hospital and they usually will find a counselor who can help you get immediate assistance. As for work nothing comes that easy if you really need money you need to go and apply for food stamps they usually will issue it to you the same day if you can explain to them your situation and they normally will put you up in a place to stay until you can get on your feet (hotel ). Oh my I wish you the best!

i dont see why there is a problem there are many places out there to get help. Try your local churches or Family Services. I dont see where changing your social security number would be a problem, it is still your identity. If this is still a problem then try family members, surely they wont want ther family members on the street. No one state is better than another. Assistance is out there just keep trying, keep your chin up and dont give up. You have 4 kids relying on you.

This sound really really fishy. Why would you need to chage your social security number? Normal people cannot find you by your social security number. Plus if you really change your SSN number then the person still can find you by your kid's SSN number.
beside that, it's WAY too easy to track people down by internet than SSN number.
So I suggest you give out more details if you want anyone to take you seriously.

I see you lie and cheat too. No one ever changes their SS# for any reason. Get an order of protection and assistance for your children. You must have violated custody rights.

Where is your family? Can't they give you a helping hand? or what about friends? If not some government agency will/must help you. Good Luck.
