Where are you shopping? Ballpark franks (the brand I buy) come in an 8-pack and the buns (whatever's on sale) typically come in an 8-pack as well, unless I pick up a "family" pack by mistake in which case it has 12.

HERE's a valid question: Why do underpants only come in packs of 3, 4, or 6? Has no one ever looked at a calendar and discovered that there are SEVEN days in a week???

these companies will do anything to make more money. Our grocery store has 8 and 12 packs but they hardly stock the 12. The hot dogs don't come in 8 packs, so you have to waste some if you buy two packs of buns or buy two packs of hot dogs and three bags of buns for it to even out.

Not sure what grocery store you shop at, but the bun packs I buy come with 12, or at the very least 8. But to answer your question, it's probably so you have to buy two and spend more money.
