You do know don't you how seriously God treats sin?
So don't ever treat sin as something small, or light or insignificant
And don't underestimate, therefore, the cost of the amazing rescue

I don't think we will EVER know how serious sin is. We will spend eternity trying to wrap our minds around how much this King of Glory gave for us.

Yes Dawn but that is not likely to inspire many folks on here who aren't already Christians. Love and patience is. Also, not to be mean but most of the time those types of statements just make non-Christians think that we are weird. You have no idea how much time it has taken me to develop relationships with non-Christians since they think that we are all here to preach hell fire and damnation. There is a point when you can talk about that but here is not the place. That is something you talk to people about when God has made them ready for it.

Sin is not small or insignificant but I live under Grace and while this doesn't give me a licence to do as I please I don't have to sit and worry about it. I try not to sin because I love God.

Yep... the cost of sin is important. No... all sins aren't equal. Some are like misdemeanors... others are like felonies. I clearly remember a sermon by Father Guido Sarducci (on one of those christian shows), in which he explained how when you arrive at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter pays you (in actual money - something like $1.25) for each day that you spent on earth. Then, in a heavenly 'accounting', you have to 'pay for your sins'... literally.

He explained in great detail how you are able to 'pay' for trivial sins quite easily (e.g.: masturbation - 25 cents; white lie - $1); but the major sins can be quite costly, like murder - $5,000.

If you are able to 'pay' for all of your sins, you get to go on directly to heaven. If not, the unpaid balance is carried as a debt... and you are sent back to earth for another life, and you repeat this cycle until you are finally able to "pay for your sins."

As an aside, he took note that really bad people, like mafia hit men, may easily accumulate an unpayable debt over the course of a single lifetime, such that it might take them several exemplary lifetimes as a Catholic nun before they are finally able to pay their way into heaven.

He concluded by saying that based on this, he had figured out that most Catholic nuns are, in fact, former mafioso.

The only thing that stops a person from doing wrong is gaining the wisdom to know it's wrong. The only thing that stops a "sin" is enlightenment --- comprehending why it's wrong to to that particular thing. To refrain from "sinning" because you believe 'God' will punish you for it is a form of dishonesty and has no value. To refrain from doing wrong because you have acquired the wisdom to understand wrong from right is one of the things that makes life a beautiful journey.

I do know how seriously some people take it. The problem I have is with what they define as sin!

But we all sin in our every day life. So we will all be punished, because there is no one person who has not sinned in their life time.

Sin is only serious if you believe in sin. If you take it seriously, then quit sinning. If not, then don't...
